clothes, photos, things i want

Look mom, I have your boots.

October 12, 2011

My friend Marina told me that Country Road and Trenery were going on sale today, so this morning Este and I quickly popped over to have a look see. I have been wanting to buy a particular pair of tan ankle boots from Trenery for a week now, but haven’t convinced myself enough that I WILL wear them, but when we went in this morning they were on sale, so that became reason enough to whip my card out and buy these pretties.

They remind me of something my mom would of worn in the 70’s. In fact I think she probably had a pair just like them. My mom’s the one on the right by the way, the beautiful hippie looking girl. Love this photograph of her!

I’m with the band.

September 29, 2011

I’m busy reading a book about Led Zepplin – Hammer of the Gods. It’s been really interesting, just like other rock bands I have read about they were very much into drugs, alcohol, girls and mayhem. Some of the members were into it more than others, but there are definitely some whacked out stories about things that happened back in the day with these guys, that are quite unmentionable. This book is a good read, but it has a lot of musical facts, so it throws you a bit if you’re not an avid Zepplin fan. It gets into which songs they played at pretty much every show they did and the details included in this book are quite well sourced. I would recommend it, if you are a fan.

One thing I found super interesting though, was the whole groupie scene. It was huge back in the day, as I’m sure it is now, but back then there were famous groups of groupies and famous individuals within those groups too. One of the stories in this book that I couldn’t believe, was of Jimmy Page’s (main member of Led Zepplin, pictured below) facsination with 14 year old Lori Maddox (below). She was his ‘secret’ girlfriend for 2 years because she was underage, he used to hide her in his hotel room when they were on tour and believe it or not, her mom was totally cool with it. I think my mom would of cut his nuts off with a rolling pin.

When Lori was 16, Jimmy traded her in for a slightly older model, 19 year old Bebe Buell (below) who was one of the most famous groupies from that era. She was absolutely beautiful, so I see why men were so taken by her. In fact she is Liv Tyler’s mom (the second picture below is of the 2 of them) and was a girlfriend to many famous rockstars like Jimmy Page, Iggy Pop, Rod Stewart, Elvis Costello.

Another super famous groupie was Pamela des Barres, Kate Hudson’s character in the movie Almost Famous (one of my most favourite movies) was semi-based on her. She was also beautiful and carefree and back in those days girls like Pamela and Bebe were treated like queens. Pamela de Barres has written a book called I’m with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie, which is on my list of things I have to read. it’s described as a remarkably sweet confession of one of the most famous groupies of the 1960s and 70s. Have any of you read it? Ooooh can’t wait!

Mini Wolves and t-shirts that will make your teeth take over your face.

September 27, 2011

On Saturday we opened a mini Wolves at the Str Cred party happening in town. For the event Shane and I actually arranged for 20 different artists to design a t-shirt and then Wolves, together with Wrigley’s 5 Gum had them made into real life. The collection is crazy amazing guys! We got some really cool people to draw us stuff and I was so proud to have our shop’s name on the lable. And here is the raddest part, there is only a limited edition of 21 t-shirts per design available, so once they have sold, that’s it.

We sold a few on Saturday, but the rest will be hanging up in Wolves, so come have a look for yourself. Thanks to everyone who came to say hi on Saturday, to all the artists (you guys are to genius), to Wrigleys and to everyone who helped make mini Wolves happen, thank you, thank you, thank you x xxx

*To see the shirts bigger, just click on the photo, you will also see the artist’s name on the lable opposite the shirt. And they are R200 each, in case you were wondering.

Hello Miss Amber

September 27, 2011

Last Wednesday Jo and I went to the Elle and Mr Price new talent show. We got see some amazing clothes, like the collection above, which was designed by one of my new friends that I have recently had the pleasure of making, Amber Jones. When I saw these pieces I was so happy because not only are they super pretty, but we’re going to be able to buy them from Mr Price in the very near future. High-5 anyone? Kateesh!

That denim shirt better watch it’s fancy back, because i’m coming to get it and i’m not taking no for an answer.
