Trick or Treat Exhibition

October 19, 2016

trick-or-treat-exhibition-3

Trick or Treat is the latest exhibition up at Wolves Cafe. It started at the beginning of the month and is coming down on the 3rd of November and because it’s a Halloween the very talented Imile Wepener thought it would be cool to have a themed group illustration exhibition, which I’m very excited to say I’m a part of. Mine are the old vintage photos with the faces drawn on them, I had so much fun making them.

So if you pop in you can expect originals and prints from some of the best illustrators around, this show is a real treat so be sure to check it out.

Marks Sign

marks-sign-20

Shane has a friend called Mark who is the most amazing local artist who paints pretty much anything you can imagine. He was the talented hands behind Desmond and The Tutus’ second album cover and made us the best family portrait (before our Neens came along).

The thing about Mark is that you can show him absolutely anything, any photo, any typeface, any reference and he’ll make it for you in his crazy talented style. So Shane knowing just how talented this man is has made it his mission to help get Mark’s name out there by helping him start an online business, because more people need to see and OWN Mark’s work.

Jedediah Corwyn treehouses

Jedediah Corwyn treehouses-01

I came across this awesome project by Jedediah Corwyn on Booooooom the other night. This artist’s latest series titled ‘somewhere small’ is made up of tiny handcrafted treehouses which are built in and around succulents and cacti pot plants. When I saw them they literally made me smile like a Cheshire cat high on catnip, they also made me want to build my own teeny tiny treehouse in one of my plants. He also hand makes pottery, silk rugs, furniture, sculptures, paintings, and various other things that occupy each house.

I love this idea so much.

Imile-Wepener-1

Imile Wepener is a young illustrator who is putting on a solo exhibition called Oh Shoot at Wolves Cafe, which starts this Friday (3rd July) at 18:00pm. There are going to be prints and original gouache paintings for sale and from what I’ve seen of Imile’s work so far it’s going to be a great show. I have attached some examples of the pieces going up, but there will be more and I urge you to come see them for yourself.

Yay for local artists!

Justine Mahoney

justine-mahoney-1

A friend of mine uploaded a photo of Justine Mahoney’s work on Facebook and I fell in love with it instantly. Justine Mahoney is an artist based in Cape Town who she makes the most amazing sculptures. They remind me a little bit of Francios Van Reenen’s work, but they’re still really cool!

I think I need and not want the sculpture above of the twins, it’s so awesome.

– Justine Mahoney’s current work is based on one seminal miniature sculpture which recall’s her first memory. At the age of three she was hospitalised for a bone degenerating disease in her left leg, a plaster cast was worn for that year. Her work deals with the struggle of life. Emotional and physical states are represented by an array of growths, swellings, attachments and almost parasitic mutations. An army of toy soldiers multiply. Siamese twin, freak, maimed, wounded, weighted, monstrous, transformed children belie their perfect toy like surface.

Sandra-Eterovic-6

I came across this artist named Sandra Eterovic on Etsy and was super entertained by her quirky, but beautiful artworks. Sandra has worked for many years in the fashion industry, designing prints, textiles and developing products for children. She now works as a freelance illustrator and make a variety of work under my own name. Some of the things that she makes can be found in her Etsy shop and in galleries and stores around Australia.
