Kleinkaap Boutique Harvest Festival

A couple of weeks ago Shane and I took a drive out to good old Pretoria to experience our first ever Harvest Festival at the historic Kleinkaap Boutique Hotel. I didn’t really know what to expect but damn did we have an awesome evening. The Kleinkaap Hotel is a nearly 100 years old and the property that it’s built on is so so pretty. When we arrived we were greeted by a huge Cape Dutch Manor house and two vintage cars parked in the driveway, it felt like we had stepped back in time.

Down in the expansive garden, they had set up four long Harvest Tables under a sky of fairy lights and oak trees. It was such an awesome sight. I don’t know if any of you have ever been to a dinner like this before, but basically what happens is you find a spot at the table and you introduce yourself to whoever is sitting next to and across from you and then mountains of food gets brought out and everyone shares and eats dinner together. It was actually really awesome and the food was delicious! We also got to listen to Georgetown Band for the first time ever, imagine Kings of Leon but more folky, they were so good!

Restaurant time: Lucky Rodrigo

June 21, 2012

The other day I took a drive with some friends to Pretoria for a meeting and afterwards we decided to try out a new restaurant that I’ve been hearing about called Lucky Rodrigo. I thought, because of the name that it was a Mexican restaurant, so all of us were cheering for chilli poppers in the car, but unfortunately it’s not. BUT we did have some of the best homemade cheese burgers I have ever tasted and I’m not a huge burger fan, but I was loving this one.

Die Skim Grot.

May 31, 2011

On Saturday Jo face and I went for ice-cream at one of the oldest ice-cream parlours in Pretoria. The decor is nothing to look at because they’ve tried to revamp it and make it modern, yuk, but the ice-cream is awesome, definitely no yuks! Anyway why we were actually there was to go to Die Skim Grot. For those of you who have no idea what i’m talking about or do not understand afrikaans and don’t have a flying clue as to what the hell a skim grot is don’t worry, I shall explain in the English.

I love elasticated belts. one cause they don’t care if you’ve had 4 and half cheese burgers in a row, they just stretch with the flow and 2, because they are super 60′ s pretty. I bought the brown one from an antique fair in Pretoria for R45 – the fair is held a few times a year at the Voortrekker Monument and it’s way fun to go to, plus they have amazing steak and borewors rolls, which thankfully don’t come from the 40’s ha. The yellow one I found in the hospice store on louie botha and I paid a whole R5 for it. I need to get an elastic for it, but that’s easy to do.
