The Field Berry Farm

March 29, 2019

The-Field-Berry-Farm-2

How often have you asked yourself what there is to do with kids in Johannesburg? I find myself battling with this dilemma pretty much every weekend, which drives me nuts because you want to be able to go to a place that not only they will like, but you will too! So when my lovely friend Gina King suggested going to The Field Berry Farm which involves, the outdoors, raspberry picking, raspberry eating, cake, food, homemade lemonade, beer and a play area we were in like flint! They even have a farm bike track for older kids, so take your bikes if you feel like a bit of a ride!

This beautiful little farm located in the South of Joburg has it all and it makes for such a wonderful full afternoon out for everyone and anyone. I mean who wouldn’t want to blissfully walk up and down rows of bushes laden with raspberries as the wind blows through your hair while you pick berries to your heart’s content.

Mountain Sanctuary Park

Mountain-Sanctuary-Park-6

I am 100% one of those people that say, ‘Camping? Nope, not for me!’ In fact, it took Shane about 9 years to convince me to go camping, which we did for the first time as a family a few months ago at Mountain Sanctuary Park. I can’t believe how adamant I was about hating it and how painfully wrong I turned out to be.

We spent two nights at Mountain Sanctuary and it was absolutely, yes I’m going to use this word, awesome! I loved every second of it, even the part where there we had to sit in the car for half an hour until a massive thunderstorm moved away, we then slept in our tent surrounded by howling winds and the sound of pouring rain. It was so cool being all snug inside right next to two of my favourite people.

Witklipfontein Eco Lodge

Witklipfontein-Eco-Lodge-3

Aaaaa man am I so happy to share this next post with you guys! One because the place I’m about to show you is epic on another level, I’m talking Grand Design scale and two it’s not only one of the most amazing houses I have ever stayed in, but it’s also completely off the grid and only an hour and a half away from Johannesburg.

My friend Leigh told me about Witklipfontein Eco Lodge a couple of weeks ago and when I went and had a look at their website I was blown away by the sheer beauty of it and after she came back and said that in real life it’s even better, I knew that we had to take a drive out to Vredefort (near Parys) for a couple of days to pretend wholeheartedly that this beauty of a house belonged to us.

COOL STUFF, places to go

Made By Jewellery

Made-By-Jewellery

You know when you’re sitting at home on the couch thinking, I wish I could do something that I’ve never done before just so I can try it out and see if it’s something that I like? It’s so cool doing things that are out of your comfort zone, things that challenge your creativity in a way that is so different to what you do in your everyday life.

I love making things with my hands, I always have ever since I was a little kid. In fact, I still have a few pieces of pottery I lovingly carved and moulded for my parents when I was in Primary School, granted I can’t tell what one or two of the items are supposed to be, so I’ll just say that I have an awesome collection of ashtrays and…paperweights. That’s the best part about pottery I guess when in doubt about a piece, it can always just be a paperweight.

A little while ago a couple of my friends, Henriette Botha and Nikki Sherman, who have started their own very pretty jewellery line called Made By started hosting an array of Ring Carving Workshops at various venues in and around Joburg and I thought it would be cool to try my hand at ring making. I thought I wear rings, I like rings and who knows maybe I’ll land up making something that becomes a family heirloom one day.

Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar

I hardly ever venture out of my little bubble when it comes to working in coffee shops or shared work spaces etc. I don’t really like driving far and by far I mean anywhere further than 5km hehe. When I have to go to say Fourways, for example, I take a deep breath and prepare myself for the looooooong drive. I know I know, I’m ridiculous! What can I say, I like my neighbourhood.

A couple of days ago Anna-Belle and I decided to go have lunch at Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar in Morningside. We had seen a bit about it online and so thought we would have our weekly catch-up there and I’m super happy to say that I’m glad we did! Not only was the coffee really good, but the food was amazing with a capital A, not sure how that makes a difference to the actual word, if it makes it more impactful or what, but it’s a saying I’ve grown up with so I’m whipping out!

The head chef whose name is Amazing Sasha with a capital A makes food that smells, looks and tastes amazing (word of the day).
