Yesterday I went to the second Collective Market on the rooftop of No. 3 Desmond Street. My friend Catherine runs it and it’s such a sweet little market full of lovely things for you to buy. Yesterday I was so excited to bump into a store called Red Oker. Red Oker is a company that creates job opportunities by taking unskilled craftsmen and turning them into skilled leather craftsmen through a training facility and program run by Casper Versluis, the co-owner of Red Oker.
How cool is this, each bag which is handmade by the way, has a little tag sewn into it that tells you it’s name, the name of the person who made it and the date it was completed. So each one in it’s own way is unique and special.
I think this little company and the products that they are turning out are amazing. I showed my support by buying this tan and green leather shoulder bag. It’s perfect for when you don’t want to carry around half your life, which is pretty much my usual handbag.
Well done guys, you’re making great things happen and I for one am proud to say that I own a Red Oker bag. I also bought one of their 2-toned skinny leather belts. So nice.
I’m going to try stock Wolves with some of these gems, I will let you know when stock arrives.
Here are a few other examples of their work and the best part, if you have something that you want made or you need one of their current styles to be changed a bit, made bigger or smaller etc, they will help you out.
i have the exact same one!
oo I like a lot, how much was the little one you bought?
@pippa j It was only R350 🙂
There’s nothing better than a sturdy leather bag 🙂
