I was a sent a mail the other day by the people who run a beautiful five-star Private Nature Reserve called Grootbos which is situated near Hermanus. They sent me pictures of their place and told me a bit about themselves and the operation that they run which is set up to protect and showcase it’s surrounding areas.
It looks absolutely beautiful and they have all sorts of cool things that you can do when you’re there, like shark cage diving (yikes), horse riding, whale watching, you can go on a scenic flights, have a beach picnic, cave exploring, flower safaris, you can see the marine big 5, have a massage in the surrounding forrest, go on a wine tour, there’s a lots to do or you can do absolutely nothing and just relax in your luxury room and eat till your stretchy pants become fashionable leggings. The choice is all yours.
Now you might be wondering why i’m telling you about this little piece of amazing, well the guys at Grootbos have a very cool Valentine month long special running whereby you pay half of what the normal rate is and you get to do a couple of the things listed above for free. And if you book and mention that you found them through Lucky Pony you will also get a free spa treatment (head & shoulders) among the ancient milkwood trees and a bottle of Moet & Chandon so you can toast your love over some fancy juice, which I think is pretty cool.
So if you are looking for something extra special to do this Valentines Day, why don’t you check them out. Maybe you can propose while shark cage diving, if the person says no you can just casually unhook the cage door and give them a swift boot and then smile and wave.
What a stunning place! However I would never go shark cage diving haha if I did I would never be able to swim again, ever.

So pleased you included shark cage diving here. It is an awesome thing to do – even if you’re not wanting to go in the cage. You can view them from the surface. We do small trips and often take kids – from as young as 5 – who love the adventure and learning about these amazing creatures. It’s not as scary as you think it is – it’s an incredible educational experience. Hope we’ll see you all soon!
i would love to do it, but i would be terrified. i love sharks, they fascinate the crap out of me, but at the same time the scare the crap out of me too. But who knows I might just be brave enough to try it if I’m ever given the opportunity 🙂
Well – we sure hope you do! Contact us when you’re next in the area.
