The other day Shane sent me a link to a girl called Mariet’s site – Kittens with Mittens. I went and had a look and nearly fell off my chair I was so happy. Mariet with her little Mariet hands makes the most beautiful handmade brooches and patches under her label called Poncho. If you don’t believe me have a look below and try not bleed awesome tears out your eyes whilst doing so.
I wanted to know from Mariet where her love of sewing and embroidery comes from, she says her gran knits like a demon and her mom is a constant source of inspiration and thinks everything she makes is so cool – Mrs. Mariet’s Mom, I concur. Mariet makes these pieces for a living and the rest of the time hangs out with her cats (geez friend your life rules). She draws all her characters and scenes before she starts embroidering, but says that they never quite turn out like the drawing, they just kind of develop as she goes along.
So through my crafting questioning skills, I now know that Mariet lives in Cape Town in an art deco building, she doesn’t have a dog, a cat yes, but not a dog, which means her flat should be easy to get into. She keeps her finished pieces in vintage tins – No locks! Awesome! And she goes to bed at different times in the evening but only after she’s had some cookies. SO…. I think if I’m smart enough, I can follow her home, woo her cat with some stomach pats and a handful of fishpaste, leave an inviting and hopefully inconspicuous plate of cookies on her kitchen table and then wait for her to fall asleep before I make off with some tins full of material gold. In and out before the clock strikes 12 slash the police get there. I think this plan is genius and Mariet can you just pretend that you didn’t read any it? Thanks.
So Mariet has spent a whole day hand making the beautiful kitty cat below and it’s going to be given to one of you lucky guys. Just leave us both a comment on our sites and wish yourself some serious luck x xxx For those of you who want one right now, like me, you can order them straight from her.
This guy is called Willem and he is a little orphan. Some day in the near future he will be adopted by a friendly lady (me) and will live happily ever after.
Pick me please! That is one cute kitty.
Im in love! Pick me please!
PS: did I mention that its my birthday Saturday…would make for a nice birthday gift……

Hmmm I like your sneaky plan for getting Mariet’s goodies. anyway maybe its just a better idea to enter the competition.
I wish myself bucketloads of luck because I want this so bad! Mariet you have genius-fingers. PS. good luck with your plan, angie, can’t fail a mon avis.

My little wooden cuties are longing to make friends with this little embroidered cutie! And from one cat lover (squisher, cuddler,) to another this little brooch needs to come play at my house (permanently).

Angie your stealing idea is hilarious! (Also sat is my friend T’s birthday – amazing you other guys who join her. I have 3 presents wrapped already and we will decorate the house for a party for her- and think of you too). NOW from one cat and embroidery adorer to others. How very very cute is mr w (wibbles, wobbles, womble). he will HAVE to come live with me as only I can be trusted to love and care for him. MARIET please give lessons in the city bowl! you can use my house x x

So cute! A cat in a jersey, how genius!:-)
Mariet’s little treasures are so special, any girl would be proud to pin one to her lapel.
Is that a Wolves ‘W’ on the kitties jersey? Genius! Absolutely beautiful!
Purrrrrrrrrrrrrr xx

i WILL be that old lady in your neighbourhood who has 25 cats and insists on feeding all the strays, and whose house and person stinks like cat pee, and who uses her pension money to buy tins of cat food in bulk and who probably eats it too. this badge would look good on my dirty granny cardigan, as i limp down the road scaring small children with my waking stick, warning you that the end is coming. so i need the badge…
Ek’s mal oor Mariet se werk, dis awesome! =))
oh my precious…~ 🙂
Mr cat looks so fantastic yet lonely. He’ll feel right at home on my old jerseys and dresses!
