The 2013 Sanlam Investments FoodWineDesign Fair is coming up really really soon and from what i’ve read about it, this year is going to be a goody. They have expanded and are hosting over 100 talented exhibitors who are all bringing their best food, wine, design and artisanal works of art to the Hyde Park rooftop.

You can expect all sorts of goodies from Missibaba bags to Dear Rae jewellery to woven blankets from the Barrydale Hand Weavers to prints from Skinny laMinx to pesto magic from Italy’s pesto champion, Roberto Panizza to wines from Marvelous Wine to beautiful home ware from Anatomy and Goet and the list goes on and on and on and on.

Paris in a few days shot by Angie Batis Durrant

October 14, 2013

paris-38

So on Thursday night I flew to Paris with Shane and Desmond and The Tutus. I had 2 flights to get through and on both of them I soldiered through some pretty bumpy bumpy patches of air. I was brave, but I think Shane’s hand took some real beating, at one point my knuckles were white and his fingers were blue, oh the joys of sitting next to me on a plane. But the important thing is we made it and so far it’s been a few fun days in Paris.

The boys are here because they played a gig at La Gaîté Lyrique (which went really super well) and Shane and I decided to stay on a few days so we could visit Berlin because we have never been before. Here is a small post with some photos I took of us in Paris over the last few days, hope you enjoy them, next stop Berlin.

Pieter Hugo – Kin

October 10, 2013

angie-batis

I went to The Stevenson Gallery (62 Juta Street Braamfontein) yesterday to see the Pieter Hugo – Kin exhibition that they have up. I’m a really big fan of Pieter Hugo, so it was awesome getting to see some of his prints up close and they’re nice and big too. I took a few snaps to show you guys, it’s on until the 8th of November, so check it out if you’re in Braamfontein.

*I thought the photos were very cool, but overall the kin theme didn’t really carry through for me, not that I’m dissing his photos, I think he’s really talented, just didn’t think they all fitted together, but they are definitely still worth going to see.

Sunday hat, sun and fun.

August 19, 2013

sunday-3

Yesterday we drove through to the Pretoria Botanical Gardens to watch our friends Shortstraw play. We packed a blanket and some treats and off we went. It was so nice to be out in the sun, it was like a proper Summer’s day yesterday. We lazed around a bit, we danced a bit, we ate a lot and then we drove home. Perfect Sunday.

I took my new hat out for a spin too. I’m liking these felt head toppers, I’m glad they’re easier to find in the shops these days.

*I don’t know about you guys, but I find it so hard to find something to do on a Sunday, if any of you have any secret places/activities that you want to share with us, please do.

Tortellino D’Oro

On Sunday Jo took me to one of her favourite restaurants near Norwood for lunch, Tortellino D’Oro. I had never heard of this place before so I was keen to try it out, plus they are an authentic Italian restaurant with all homemade pastas and sauces.

So off we went and damn was I pretty much licking my plate by the end of it. This Italian/deli restaurant is not cheap, but their food is so good that you’ll be pretty much humming between each bite whilst waving your fork around in the air like a crazy person, well at least that’s what I was doing. We were one of only a couple of tables when we arrived, but with in a matter of 15 minutes the place was packed, so I take it booking is essential.

July 16, 2013

THE-SHOESTRING-COLLECTIVE-2

The Shoestring Collective which has been created by Leila Badsha and Sera Holland is a pop-up shop that looks like it’s full of all things that would make me want to punish my credit card. Everything in this sweet little space is has been designed by local clever faces like Dark Horse, Coppelia,  Lauren Fowler, Oh Dear Megan, Famke, just to name a few. The shop will be open until the 11th of August and can be found in the Gardens Centre in Cape Town, downstairs near the Pick n Pay.

Looks like you guys did such a nice job, well done, I’m sure it has been and will continue to be a roaring success.
