Trip down memory lane, beware the troll.

June 9, 2011

Last night I fished around in my one of my many boxes of things that I collect and I pulled out all these little guys. Many years ago when I had lots of these and decided to do a clean out, one because I was moving and two because I was in my early 20’s and not my 10’s anymore, I decided to keep one of each for memories sake.

Man, when I was a kid these guys made me so amazingly happy. They weren’t computerized or battery operated, they didn’t have the word Apple in their names, they were just made of plastic and imagination and they were awesome. Shame, when I look at them now I feel sad that I will never again get as excited as I did when I was younger over an old man faced troll with pink hair or a blue shaved monkey with no shirt on. But not to worry my little friends, you’re not going anywhere, my kids will play with you one day.

Ok so i’m talking to my toys now, yes it’s weird and no I haven’t been dipping into my large stash of liquor chocolates, just feeling sentimental, that’s all…

Do you guys till have some of your old toys? I still have a lot more, but will save them for another day xxx x

I had a troll just like that, but it had orange hair – i would insist we feed it and bathe it and my family indulged me. Good memories.

Thanks for making this day a little brighter!

YES I was a Barbie nut! I kept everything beautifully packaged for my daughters one day. BUT (I get a lump in my throat when I tell this part) my sister gave my Barbies to her friend’s daughters to play with when I was out once. They pulled the heads off all my Barbie dolls and scribbled on their faces… they’re ruined. Heart my heart so much! I kept my troll dolls, forest friends and diaper babies but ended up giving them to my nieces – they went bananas when I gave them to them.

My absolute fave was my care bear which I think I still have in one of my boxes.

Now to end on a funny note:
My four-year-old niece was playing with her Barbie and Ken. We noticed that her Barbie had red khoki on her face. We asked what happened and without skipping a beat she looked at us and said, “She got sunburnt.” Then I looked at Ken and he was dressed in Barbie’s clothes, when I asked what was happening, she looked at me and said, “That’s Alicia.” I think my niece might have the first drag queen Ken ever!

I don’t have any of my toys anymore – I think I managed to salvage my one Barbie that I loved. The rest my mom gavea way to kids that needed them all more than I did.

I loved My Little Pony and Barbies, I had some trolls, some babies with the nappies that changed colour and a monchichi.

I miss being little, it was so much fun with such little effort!

Now that I’m thinking about it, I had a troll doll with red-orange hair that I kind of mutilated and “altered”, and I called it “Alfred the Snake Killer” and carried it around like a little talisman.

Wow, I was a weird kid.

I can still sing the opening song of the TV program and I owned so many of these sweet pretty pony’s, even had one that had a magic saddle that opened up where you could keep all your goodies!
