I have just finished reading Mötley Crüe‘s autobiography called The Dirt. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Those guys were messed up. I literally couldn’t put the book down and it’s filled with stories that would make your grandmother wash your mouth out with acid if she ever heard you repeat them. You know how you always imagine rock and roll bands to be hardcore nutcases, well these guys were on a planet of their own. I must say bands back in the day seem like they would be a lot harder than some bands we listen to today. I just can’t imagine Belle and Sebastian behaving the same way these guys did. They used to dress in spandex, mid drift tops, platforms, loads of make-up, teased hair and leather and they owned every place they went into to. I read some of the story out to Shane and he listened and then politely told me that that would be the last bit of the Mötley Crüe story he ever wants to hear. Hhaah. The guys in the band reckon that the only other person who was more hardcore than them was old nutty Ozzy Osborne. They include one or 2 stories with him and let me just say that this time your granny would probably just drink the acid herself and hope she never wakes up again.
Guys if you like autobiographies, if you like a story that will have you saying out loud, even if you are the only one in the house- “No ways!”, “What the hell, “That’s impossible”, “Holy crap”, “Shane, is that even humanly possible”, then get this book. It documents their entire career, from when they were youngins with nothing to loose and everything they ever wanted, to who they are now, 4 guys with kids, tattoos, alimonies and some of the maddest stories ever told. Can’t wait for the movie to come out.
*You can order it from my friend Janita at Pulp books for R150 – She delivers and everything. Yes.

Nothing like a guy in spandex and make-up.
