Hooray for new restaurants and double hooray when you know the person who’s opened it and they’re super awesome and deserve all the success in the world. My friend Lexi has just launched her very own restaurant called Lexi’s Healthy Eatery right in the heart of Sandton and Shane and I paid her a little visit the other day to not only try out her food but to give her a giant high-5 too!

This awesome eatery feels like the type of place Mother Nature might settle into for a spot of lunch, as the menu is packed full of all sorts of amazing sounding, mostly plant-based dishes made with love and the utmost consideration for our planet. We’re talking a menu that has the kind of offerings on it that will make you want to try numerous things, not only because they sound delicious, but because you know that you will be doing your body a huge healthy favour by tucking in. What’s on offer (as I mentioned above) is mostly plant-based, but there are a couple of sustainable, free-range meat and fish options on there too. There is also a great fresh juice and smoothie section with loads of tasty combinations. There is nothing quite like a freshly made juice, am I right?

Lexi has created such a special little space surrounded by plants, wood and hints of yellow, which just makes you smile from the minute you walk in. And her food is just as inviting, with dishes that are full of vibrant colours and textures all ready to take you on a rollercoaster of food emotions. Below are some photos are the meals Shane and I scoffed down, so you will see what I mean when I say that they’re quite the visual feast.

I had an Activated Charcoal Burger made with sweet potatoes and chickpeas. This was a first for me and definitely not a last 🙂 It was really good and quite a change from a 100% beef burger. We also had a Glow Bowl made up of sweet potatoes, fresh baby spinach, roasted cauliflower, spicy chickpeas, avocado, roasted carrots and sliced radish all coated in a Tahini dressing and black sesame seeds. Need I say more? Ok, one more thing – YUM.

Lexi also bought out one of her smoothie bowls for us to try, we had a Green Monster Bowl which is a spinach, pineapple, banana, mango, mint, avo and lemon smoothie topped with her toasted homemade granola, desiccated coconut and freshly sliced fruit. This dish was like a slice of nature on a plate. So good.

The last two things we tried was a Zinger which was freshly squeezed orange, lemon and grapefruit and then a Beach Bum; pineapple, mango, raspberries, mint desiccated coconut and non-diary milk.

When I come home in December I’ll definitely be making a stop here! In fact, I’ll probably be stalking all the saliva inducing haunts you’ve reviewed on your blog. You’re a girl after my own heart Angie, food glorious food!
