When we were in Zimbabwe we got to see my folks and both my grannies. My one grandmother, that I often blog about was showing me some of her jewelry, when she brought out this beautiful ruby/amethyst piece and gave it to me. It belonged to my grand grandmother, she wore it till the day she died and my granny has had it for the last few decades, so this ring is well over 115 years old. It reminds me of something you would get in a fancy Xmas cracker, that will only fit on your pinky, but in a good way.
It really is one of the most special things that I own. Unfortunately the amethyst is chipped, I might get it fixed, I will see. For now I just had it re-tipped because both stones, according to the jeweler were about to pop out. Another very sentimental piece I got from my gran a while back was this vintage gold locket. It was given to her when she was 2 years old, the dents in the front are from her biting on it when she was little and the photo inside is of my great grandfather.
I will cherish these 2 things till the day I die. True story.
You’re a sentimental fool… Just like me!
They’re stunning! I love the bit about the teeth marks – makes it even more special. x
those are both beautiful! i especially like the picture in the locket.
So incredibly beautiful. My mom has a similar locket with sapphires on the front, but it doesn’t open anymore because when I was a kid I’d sit on her lap and continuously open and close it until I broke it (gulp!)
Sentimental pieces are the best. The stones in my engagement ring belonged the to finance’s great-Grandmother. Super special.
Gorgeous pieces too!
[…] It goes so nicely with my granny’s ring. […]
