Will you marry me?

July 1, 2011

My granny was here from Zimbabwe for a few days and I got to spend Saturday morning with her last weekend. She is so lovely and small and kind and awesome. I look at her and I want to cry because every time I see her I hope that it won’t be the last time. I know that is a weird thing to say, but she is 86 years old and she lives so far away from me, so I don’t get to see her often.

My gran, for her whole life has been a great collector of beautiful jewelry. I was admiring her engagement ring (which she wants me to have one day) and while we were waiting for lunch I took some pictures of it, the setting is so classic for the 1950’s. This ring is amazing in real life, in fact I have never seen such a beautiful and clear diamond before. She loves this ring and what I love about my gran is she is always so well dressed and always wearing it, even though it’s quite flashy, she doesn’t care, she loves it.

I hope one day i’m like my gran at 86, she’s funny, she’s sweet and she knows exactly what’s going on. Knowing me I’ going to be nuts in the head and a poker slash Scrabble addict who drinks way too much milky tea with gin in it.

I’m not a fan of flashy wedding rings at all, but this one! Wow, I wouldn’t mind having me a bit of that.

I know that agreeing to get married is a decision based on love, but this ring would be a good encouragement for me to say yes….

That’s crazy beautiful! I would just stare at it all day long!

No wonder she wears it all the time – it doubles as protection. Imagine a knuckle sandwich with that guy – the baddie would be seeing stars!

I’m so with you on that one, Peggy. If the guy wasn’t that great I’d just grab the ring and run for it 🙂

That is an unbelievably beautiful ring… I know how you feel though. My Grandad is tuning 87 this year and it’s really hard for me to visit him. He has gone backward a lot in the past few years, I just want to cry when I see him:(

that is a very beautiful ring and such a great story! my gran was born in 1910 and she lived till she was 96 years old. My favorite thing about her was the crazy true stories she had from her amazing life! haha plus she was tatoo’d like a sailor!
