Bone Couture

A local lass by the name of Anna who is behind the label SMITH, emailed me a couple of days ago about her new Bone Couture jewellery collection. The collection was inspired by a little Bokmakierie carcass that she found on the side of the road in Namaqualand last year. She then incorporated an albino Gopher snake to round out the collection.

I think these pieces are pretty cool and I really, really like the long necklace with the gold Bokmakierie dangling off of it.

– I draw my inspiration from my travels and the different cultures and environments that I have encountered along the way; whether it’s a piece of wallpaper from a 16th century villa or from the feeling invoked by a walk through the African bush.

There are two distinctive aesthetics that appeal to me: Organic and Elaborate. The challenge to fuse organic materials and sensations with intricate designs and techniques is what really fascinates me. I am continuously in the search of simple, elegant, timeless designs with a little bit of a kick! This translates into bold, feminine, lightweight sterling silver jewellery that is crafted 100% by hand, ensuring that no two pieces are the same.
