I hardly ever venture out of my little bubble when it comes to working in coffee shops or shared work spaces etc. I don’t really like driving far and by far I mean anywhere further than 5km hehe. When I have to go to say Fourways, for example, I take a deep breath and prepare myself for the looooooong drive. I know I know, I’m ridiculous! What can I say, I like my neighbourhood.

A couple of days ago Anna-Belle and I decided to go have lunch at Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar in Morningside. We had seen a bit about it online and so thought we would have our weekly catch-up there and I’m super happy to say that I’m glad we did! Not only was the coffee really good, but the food was amazing with a capital A, not sure how that makes a difference to the actual word, if it makes it more impactful or what, but it’s a saying I’ve grown up with so I’m whipping out!

The head chef whose name is Amazing Sasha with a capital A makes food that smells, looks and tastes amazing (word of the day).

The shop itself is small and sophisticated decked out in green, wood, leather and brass. The menu is not huge but it’s full of enough things that will make you want to order it all! They also have a selection of in-house baked goods which were all smiling at me from their perch, I opted for a slice of freshly baked Brown Butter Banana Bread with Whipped Almond Butter! It was honestly one of the tastiest banana breads I’ve ever had. I also had their Shakshuka which came with Baked Eggs, Aubergine Chermoula, Chevin and a side of homemade Kitka and whipped salted butter. So so good, the addition of the Chevin was spot on, it gave the dish the right kind of saltiness.

Anna-Belle opted for Smashed Avo with Citrus Toast and Pistachio and Dukkah Crumble. Another cracker dish which in theory is really simple but they managed to elevate it with the addition of the crumble. She also had the gluten-free Date, Banana and Walnut Bread, which she said was very good! I was too busy stuffing my face with my own to try hers.

Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar might be a bit of a drive for some or just up the road for others, but it’s totally worth any car time as far as I’m concerned.

I’d love to hear if any of you have been and what you thought.
