Earlier today Anna-Belle and I drove through to Licorish Bistro in Nicolway who in collaboration with Whisking it hosting a 3-day pop-up Vegan restaurant. So just for today, Friday and Saturday they will be serving a bespoke Vegan menu full of some of the most delicious things you’ll probably ever stuff into your face.
We were actually lucky enough to try out not one but six of the dishes on their pop-up menu and by the end of it we were not only completely stuffed, obviously, but also so very happy that we got to sample some of the really tasty Vegan dishes that won’t make you feel like you’re missing out somehow.
I’m not one to frequent Vegan restaurants or order something vegetarian off a menu, but I’m so glad that I got to try out these creations because with every bite I realised just how awesome Vegan food can be.
All the flavours were fresh and light and the combinations were so good and the best part is all the food looked amazing, which is always a bonus for a blogger! The colours and textures that made up each dish just added to the whole experience and I would say that even if you’re not Vegan you should pull through and give this little pop-up experience a try. The chefs are eager to hear what you like so that they can permanently add it to their bistro menu.
This is what we tried our best to get through – A Quinoa Breakfast Bowl, which was a very first for me. It was made up of Cinnamon and Vanilla Quinoa Porridge served with fresh Kiwis, Berries and Coconut Flakes. We also had a taste of their Moroccan Spiced Breakfast Fry Up made up of Wilted Baby Spinach, Grilled Mushrooms, oven roasted Vine Tomatoes, Potato Fondant all served with Avocado and Harissa Spiced Corn.
We also sampled the two salads that they have on offer, the Herbed Green Salad filled with Mint, Basil, Baby Spinach, Grilled Asparagus, Avo, Red Onion, and Snow Peas, what made this dish amazing was the generous sprinkling of black sesame seeds and Lemon Chilli Dressing. This was actually my favourite of the morning. We also dipped into a Exotic Nutty Grain Salad.
The more filling options were the Black Rice Shitake Bowl, which as the name clearly states is made up of Black Rice, another ingredient I never ever tried, but am an instant fan of, it was mixed with Garlic Sautéed Shitake Mushrooms, Blanched Bak Choy, Steamed Broccoli and Pickled Ginger. Delicious!!
The last meal I’m going to write about is the Middle-Eastern Inspired Veggie Burger. The patty was so good and textural, made up of Chickpeas, Lentils, Peas, Spinach, Parsley and Lemon Zest served on a gluten-free bun with Sundried Tomato Paste, shaved Roasted Carrots, Chermoula, Rocket and Red Onion with a batch of tasty tasty Veggie Chips.
