There is a family run business called Douglas and Bec and they make such cool products. They have awesome lighting, jewellery, art, objects, linens, cushions, furniture, ceramics, stationary, accessories, kitchen stuff etc etc
I would visit this shop every second day if existed lived in Joburg. The owners would think I was a crazy person who likes talking to innate objects like they’re long lost friends.
I picked out all my most favourite things, but there is lots more, you can check out the site by clicking here.
– In 2006 Dad and I started making furniture in a small workshop in rural Auckland under the brand ‘Workroom’. We specialised in lighting and the use of solid timbers, letting our fondness for materials lead the design process. We worked together, he would contribute to the designs and I would always roll my sleeves up and help him with the making. We continue to hand make all our work with the help from some very talented local artisans. Our collection has grown to include other materials such as spun metals, copper, brass, linen, leather and blown glass. In 2010 we progressed to opening a retail store called Douglas and Bec, which not only houses our handmade pieces but other like-minded practitioners from both here and around the world. We have now moved from the our small former-motor-garage-workshop to a new purpose build, and have timely decided that ‘Workroom’ should be called ‘Made by Douglas and Bec’.
