Bianca Brand

Bianca Brand is a young talented illustrator from Cape Town who is currently showing at Wolves cafe. Her exhibition ‘Hide Ya Kids, Hide Ya Wife’ started last week Friday and is such a visual treat for the eyes. Bianca’s dark subject matter which is set in bright and fun colours really contrast one another, but in the best possible way.

The show is made up of 12 prints altogether and they are being sold in limited editions of 3. On the opening night, she had already reach the 2nd edition on nearly all of them, so if something catches your eye here, mail me quick sticks.

Wideeyed Sculptural Exhibition

We have a lot of different kind of art that goes up at Wolves Cafe, but we have never had a Sculptural Exhibition before, so I’m very excited to show you guys the work of Josh Smart who is currently using Wolves’ bookshelf as a home for his weird and wonderful creatures.

The Wideeyed Sculptural Exhibition started at the beginning of the month and is made up of 10 super awesome, limited edition, handmade and painted monsters. And the best part is that their prices are pretty much as awesome as their faces – These guys start at R545 (yes that’s right!) and go up to R2500.

Mike Dargas

Mike Dargas was born in 1983 in Cologne and he responsible for these huge photo realistic oil paintings. They are so good, at first when I saw the photos of him painting on the canvases they confused me a bit, because I didn’t realise how big they actually were. I can’t believe how much detail and accuracy goes into each one. You would think on a bigger scale it would be more obvious that they were paintings and not photographs, but that is not the case. They are so well done they almost bring tears to my eyes.

Shih Yung-Chun

Check out these absolutely bizarre, but really interesting paintings by Taipei based artist Shih Yung-Chun.

– Shih Yung-Chun paints surreal re-imaginings of everyday scenes, where adults occupy themselves with strange activities like bored kids creating their own games during summer vacation. Puppets, dolls, animals, and figurines are recurring motifs in Shih’s world, which seems believable yet slightly off balance. The Taipei-based artist inserts autobiographical snippets in many of the paintings: Some of his scenes are set in his own house and he and his white French bulldog make occasional appearances. Shih has referred to his works as “soap operas,” hinting at their highly fictionalised nature. Take a look at some of his work below.

Dani Loureiro

Dani Loureiro is a freelance illustrator, letterer and graphic designer living and working in Cape Town. Dani designs the most amazing type pieces both on paper and in 3D. I commissioned her a couple of months ago to make me one of her custom made wooden typography pieces for Shane for our anniversary and what she sent over was beyond awesome. It’s seriously one of our most favourite things in our house.
