A couple of days ago the guys from Simon and Mary sent me their 2014 lookbook and told me about their very exciting news, that they are the only South African brand to be chosen to showcase at Bread and Butter in Berlin. If some of you haven’t heard of Simon and Mary, then I would love to introduce you to them today. This (now) Johannesburg based hat company started years and years ago. It’s a heritage brand established in 1935. The hat roots were first planted in South Africa when Mordechai Pozniak (Simon’s father) brought his cap factory from Poland to Johannesburg.
Simon and his wife Mary Pozniak eventually took the leading role in the company and grew it into one of Africa’s most renowned wool felt hat manufacturing plants. And today a fourth generation Pozniak, Dean, who entered the business in 2008, heads the brand & factory with the aim of continuing the legacy created by Simon.
Their hats are absolutely beautiful and so well crafted and manufactured and I just love how this family business has stayed just that throughout all these years and I’m so looking forward to seeing what the new generation has in store for the future.
