My friend Suzanne mailed me about a very cool project that she is working on with a group of young creatives from underprivileged backgrounds. Her company together with these five passionate, young people namely: Simangele, Lucky, Obakeng, Sithembiso and Tebogo from Umuzi Photo Club (a youth development organisation) have come up with a very cool business idea, which actually started as a once-off exhibition piece. I’m so amped to share this with you guys, because I think it’s a cool project to get behind.
So without further a due I’d like to introduce you all to Seeks Sock Co – is a sock company with a difference. It’s about creating socks that don’t just make a fashion statement, they make a statement about who we really are. Each pair of socks in the Seeks Sock range is based on a photograph taken by the above-mentioned students and is linked to personal, moving story. These stories are then interpreted into beautiful designs on wearable socks.
The thing is, these guys really need some help funding this awesome project and so to try and raise the money, they have launched the ‘Seeks Socks’ campaign on the world’s largest crowd-sourced funding site: Indiegogo. They would really appreciate people checking out the site and supporting the project if they can. So I’m asking nicely, if you guys have a moment and some spare cash to put towards this initiative, please do so, it would mean so much to them.
If you pledge $1 you’ll receive a grateful fist bump, $10 gets you a list of local curse words in all of our 11 official languages. $20 gets you a wife from one of Zuma’s many. And $50 gets you an original photographic print from a South African photographer (one of them) that will no doubt be famous one day.
