Would you like the prettiest dress ever?

March 7, 2011

I bought this wonderful top from a lovely lass called Margot Molyneux. She is the talented hands behind her clothing label Margot Molyneux. I was in Cape town a couple of months ago and I spotted it, tried it on, paid for it and then danced around in my head for the rest of the day like a child whose had too much sherbit and Oros mixed.

Margot Justine Molyneux lives in Claremont, Cape Town and works from home – by dream job. She started her label in 2009 and you can buy her stuff directly off her website or from Mungo & Jemima, Spence, Lily and soon from Nap (All details are on the website though in case you don’t know where these places are).

Margot tries to create clothes that are simple and easy to wear. Clothing that is not fussy, so while items can be worn by themselves, the wearer also has the option to add her own stamp. Whenever I look at her stuff I always want to wear it and then go for a long walk down a small street in Paris eating an ice-cream and greeting everyone that walks by while Vampire Weekend plays in the background. Maybe, seeing as this is my dream, they can be on a flatbed truck following me while I make my way through the city – yes why not!

I asked Margot if she is a pants or a dress person, she says she prefers pants – I think I’m with you on this one friend, pants all the way. I also wanted to know if she were forced to watch Days of our Lives or Bold and the Beautiful for the rest of her life, which one would it be. Yes this is a serious question ok and very important.

Answer: I think Bold and the Beautiful. You can miss episodes for months (years more like) and be sure to find Brooke with one of the Forresters. Makes for easy catch ups.

Agreed, that show is like an endless bowl of oats. You know what you’re getting all the way through and it never ends.

So you may be wondering why i’m telling you so much about Miss Margot, well it’s because I just love her stuff ANNNNNNND she has been kind enough to part with one of her beautiful sailor dresses for a giveaway. I’m loathed to give it away, but one of you pretties will soon be waltzing around in it, with an ice-cream in one hand and probably Steve Hofmeyer playing softly in the background – balls!

So you know what to do, leave me a comment and if you feel like it send Margot a mail telling her how awesome her stuff is, because it is x x xx Good luck friends.

i consider the lucky pony competition as the universe’s last attempt to get me one of those bloody sailor’s dresses. Oh, how i have searched! I have mungo and jemimed, biscuit milled and labia marketed myself to death. However, the holy trinity of ‘product in stock’, ‘right colour+size’ and ‘me-having money’ never ever seem to coincide. I even tried to get on from you directly, but communications were thwarted by a lost phone and then an out of town sojourn on my side. It’s all starting to seem very eery and fateful, like those parts in The Lord Of The Rings where the seeming disaster is but an essential part in the fated and glowing victory and everyone dances and smiles forever. So basically, what I’m saying is that I should totally win this dress. In black. Size L. For the love of cheeses!

It is destiny that this dress and I become lifelong friends…it is black and white, I love black and white, it is a dress, I wear dresses, it should be worn on a lovely sunny autumn day, I have a couple of those coming my way, it is sailor inspired, I have always wanted to “sail the seven seas so blue”, it would look fabulous with little red shoes, I happen to have the most gorgeous pair of patent red shoes…PREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTYYYYYYYYY PLLLLEEEEEEEEEEAAASE (me rolling on the floor in a frenzied performance reminiscent of a 2 year-old throwing a tantrum as she is being dragged out of Disney World) x x x Oh beautiful dress!!!!

  • Elian March 7, 2011 at 12:12 pm

Only recently discovered she was a local iKapa resident! So exciting!
…i love the way her simplicity still has a fun quirky element!
I think this really resonates with me…so would love to waft down the road…ice cream in hand…NOT listening to to Steve (sorry Steve)…

Margot – you are SO talented…really really

I have been oogling that dress for the longest time on Spence but have resisted buying it because I am currently on a spending ban since I have to buy a wedding dress. I WAAAAAAANT it so much. I am going to Paris at the end of April and I thought that would really convince you to give it to me, but I see Leigh also has that as her arguement. Damn you Leigh, just kidding I don’t know you Leigh and I’m positive you’re really lovely :).

  • Beck March 7, 2011 at 4:38 pm

I promise to listen to non-stop vampire weekend all day long if I win this dress, I might even throw in a little bit of She & Him for the sake of hipster, happy tunes. It is so lovely. Don’t you wish that “iwantiwant” got you something?

*dies at thought of owning something as outrageously gorgeous as this dress*

And yes, Bold and the Beautiful, totally like oats. I “catch up” every now and then during my summer holiday when they do the repeats during the day. Been doing it for ages and never missed a thing after a whole year of not watching.

All I want to know is what happened to Passions on etv. I miss that weird Timmy doll.

P.S. Those blue shorts. Yum yum yum.

  • Nicole March 7, 2011 at 10:13 pm

But come on, who could resist!

This is such a fun giveaway, and such a pretty dress! I’d pair it with sparkly flats and maybe a long gold necklace! It’d be fun for casual and formal stuff!

Wow! If I won this dress, I would buy a quaint little sailing boat. I would paint it red and blue and have bunting and solar-powered fairy lights strung across it and I would sail the world. I would take a cat with me [his name will be Felix and he will be my sidekick] and I would read TS Eliot to him all day.

    Want! Love!
