Would you like a art deco? Did I hear you say “hells yes”?

July 30, 2010

I want everyone to say hello to lovely Paula and Michael who own and run Vamp Furniture in Woodstock Cape Town (St Mary’s church on the corner of Albert Road). I sent Paula a mail the other day about perhaps participating in a bit of giveaway and she lovingly agreed. Yes you have read right, one of you is going to be taking home the super cool art deco coffee table pictured above and the best part, other than the fact that you’re getting this R950 gem as a present, is that Paula is happy to paint it any colour you like. How rad?

I asked Paula a bunch of questions, as I normally do – All I’m saying is it sounds like she has a flipping cool life, which consists of living in pretty Cape Town and running a successful amazing looking shop filled with vintage furniture and kitchenalia located in an old beautiful church in Woodstock. Her days consist of running the store and shopping for new pieces to put in it as well as vamping the awesomness back into them. Shopping for a living? Yes please!

I was wondering when they decided to open a shop and if it was tough endeavor – the answer she gave is seriously one of my dreams come true. About 18 months ago they were on a weekend trip away up the West Coast and they came across an odd shop that sold a little bit of everything from clothing and furniture to petrol. But she says what really caught her eye was the amazing selection of vintage furniture that this shop had, which previously belonged to some or other government department. They literally bought the whole lot and shipped it back home in a big truck. They weren’t too sure what they were going to do with it, but it didn’t take them long to decide to open a shop. AAAAAAAAAA how cool? I love this story, cause it seriously is like a dream. When do you ever come across a truck load of awesomes that the owner is willing to let you snap up in one go?

The guys also get their stuff form auctions and markets, secondhand shops etc etc. and from the look of the pieces on their blog, they have damn good taste.

I often wonder what people’s houses look like that have access to so much cool stuff. I asked Paula if her house looks like their shop – she says they have some pieces, but their furniture keeps changing and they like to mix modern and vintage stuff up. Nice.

My last question to her was, if she could change one thing about herself what would it be – She said that she would go back to when she was 17 and collect up all the old beautiful pieces of furniture her granny offered her that she turned her nose up at. Ha! We’ve all done that.

Man, if I could change one thing about myself, it would be for me not to look like a piggy every time I climb on horse!

Thanks Paula so much for the beautiful table and for answering my questions xx xxxx

Ok guys you know what you have to do. Leave myself and Paula (you can leave a comment under Paula’s latest post) a comment on both our sites and then hold your little thumbs for good luck. And if you are in the Woodstock area, pop in and say hi, i’m dead certain that you and your house will be so glad you did.

Paula and the Vamp store are just wonderful. I live in Woodstock and often drive past the store. Everytime I see the brightly coloured furniture on the corner it makes me smile. Nothing like a yellow ball and claw table to brighten a day 🙂 I have a wonderful white metal cabinet and heart chalkboard from Vamp and would be more than happy to give this sweet coffee table a loving new home in our cottage.

Lucky Pony: Little Yellow Coffee Table!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so I’m not sure what I need to say, but maybe I should repeat my coffee table story to you too.

Wha happened is….a long long time ago we got a cute little puppy. This little puppy we called Dutch (Dutch Courage).
Dutch loved to eat, especially table legs. He decided one day that he would lie like a plat anna frog and chew all for table legs to pieces.
What could I do? He was only a puppy.
I decided a ctmo (coffee table make-over) was in Order. I purchased the Red paint and sanding paper and got cracking.
I had painted the table beautifully when suddenly it started to Bubble like a glass of Really cheap Midmar liquors Sparkling Wine…..”holy Cow I screamed …….. it’s AlIvE” I dropped the brush on the floor and at that Moment Mr Courage decided to toddle all over the brush…marking his territory with Puppy Power paw prints so to speak. Now there a cute little puppy paws all over my floor reminding me of the days when he was cute and mischevious.
Not thinking I picked up the brush and continued to paint the bubbles away, not realising that there was
half a Zoo covering the bristles……freaking pet hair I screamed!!!
So now I have a Fur Coat for a table and would really appreaciate a new table. Don’t worry. Dutch is bigger now and doesn’t like the taste of wood anymore. Till tis day I still don’t know why it bubbled. I blame it on the weather.
Thanks and have a wonderful day
    Sue (suzie@habarigroup.com)
