Verkykerskop. Lekkersdorp.

September 27, 2010

Shane and I went to the Drakensburg last weekend. I have never really spent a lot of time there, it really is beautiful and so relaxing. We drove around a lot and stopped in a few of the little towns along the way. I bought a couple of things here and there, not too much though. We were more into just sitting back and looking at the pretty nature this time around. Sometimes that is the best thing for your insides.

One place I do want to tell you guys about is a little town that our friend Steak is running and helping build from the ground up, it’s called Verkykerskop and it’s located sort of between Warden (strange town. wow) and Harrismith. It’s a small town that is owned by a friend of his and which they plan to build into an all green village. There is a proper genuine general dealer and a butcher, a coffee shop, an awesome diner, a post office and a big barn out back that they are revamping and turning into a huge live music venue. They have built a few guest houses on the property already, which are fully kitted out in antique and old school afrikaans splendor. I was in my element. It’s the sweetest place and after Steak explained all the future plans for it, like all the apple trees they plan to plant on everyone’s property, I didn’t want to leave. If any of you are heading in that direction any time soon you should stop and have a brandy and dry lemon with him, apparently that is the most popular drink in town. Haha! Steak said it all started one night when one of the regulars thought he would be adventurous and have one and now every one is drinking it.

I sense a future birthday party taking place here. Can’t wait.

    That house looks completely AMAZEBALLS.

It also looks like one of those “fake” houses they use for nuclear testing. You know the ones? Yes? No.
