The Frown. Wow.

April 5, 2011

Last night The Frown had a bit of an EP launch at Wolves. It was amazing! What Eve did was get 4 different guest performers to  cover a song off the EP and then she performed them all again at the end. So we had the privilage of hearing Gill Hockman, Short Straw, Fonda and Vampire 9000, as well as The Frown all in one night. Such a cool idea, such a cool show.

If you haven’t watched The Frown live, you should really change that. They have such a cool stage presence and their music is amazing, they are one of those bands that have you transfixed from the moment they start. I have attached one of Eve’s music videos, this song isn’t on the EP, but I love it just the same. Enjoy x

Here’s another cool thing, The Frown is the first band that myself and Shane have released on our new record label called Howl Records. Whohohoooooooo. So if you are all for supporting local music and local record labels, come past Wolves and grab yourself an EP that will have you not frowning all week long – price: R50 each.

Eve’s lovely boyfriend, Niall designed the packaging. Nice.

And how, may I ever so politely enquire, does a Capetonian get hold of a copy? Sounds a little like Fetish by way of The Knife (remember Fetish, SA band from a decade ago?)

Fetish’s So many prophets was the first album I ever bought myself, I was grade 6. Got it for R25 at Cash Crusaders! Ha

Saw them live many times, they managed to capture a sound that set them apart from the emerging alternative scene in the 90’s. Michelle is now in a band called Dark Pop, though I don’t think they’ve released anything recently.

I applaud your Grade 6 self!
