Hartford House in The Drakensburg

August 22, 2012

Shane and I left for the Drakensburg on Sunday morning for a few days. We stayed on wonderful horse stud farm called Hartford House. They are situated on acres and acres of beautiful land and there are horses everywhere. Horses, now I think they are beautiful and I would love nothing more than to gallop like a jockey gone mad on one, but they scare me a bit. I ride them, but I don’t go very fast, when all I want to do is, go fast. One day I think I will conquer this fear, not sure when that will be, but I will.

Shane and I took our bikes with which we rode all over the farm, up and down, left and right. Ok let me be honest here, I rode down and left and right, but I pushed the bike wherever there was an up. Damn I’m unfit.

Anyway we stayed in one of their lake houses, which was very nicely set-up, with a view of one fo their 5 lakes. We even had matching bathtubs.  We felt like like 2 drunk cowboys in a bath house. It was awesome.

Sometimes you just need to get away from everything and just zone out and that is exactly what we did. We were surrounded by nature and horses and it was so nice not to have to think about anything but what was for lunch or what page you were on in the book you were reading.

Thanks Hartford House for the few days we spent with you, you were very nice.

We went to the Rhodes Museum too which was very strange to say the least. There were some very interesting bits and pieces, but there were some friggin weird things too – My most favourite thing was the guest book – I love the ‘just fun’ comment, I think it summed this place up quite nicely, if you crossed the word ‘fun’out.

Welcome back! What a beautiful place. PS Going fast on horses scares me too – the best place to get over this fear is on the back of a horse on the beach, you get so caught up in the experience you forget about being scared. I did it in Sodwana, it was super cool.

The matching bathtubs is such a fun idea. It would be great to just have a really really long relaxing bath next to each other. And then maybe together 🙂

Beautiful pics – makes me want to go to the Drakensburg.

    That Dora doll is S-C-A-R-Y!

PS Horses also scare me a little bit, not really sure why.
