Coobs

March 4, 2015

Coobs-13

The other night we went and had dinner at a cute little eatery in Parkhurst called Coobs. This restaurant is one of my most favourite places in Joburg, so if you’re looking for a cool spot to hang out and have a good meal you should definitely pay them a visit.

We got chatting to the owner James who was telling us about how he sources the majority of his ingredients from his farm Brightside and what I love is that his menu changes frequently according to what is available or in season. James is such a great character and he is really passionate about Coobs and the food that it puts out.

Cafe Del Sol Botanico

Cafe Del Sol Botanico-1

One of my most favourite restaurants in Johannesburg is Cafe Del Sol in Olivedale. I have only eaten there a handful of times, because it’s not the kind of place you can just arrive at and expect to be seated, you have to book way in advance, but man is it worth the wait. So when I learnt that the same owners were opening up second branch called Cafe Del Sol Botanico in The Bryanston Shopping Centre, my stomach literally did a cartwheel.

Some cool new spots to check out on Jobest

December 12, 2014

jobest

As you know, Anna-Belle and I have started a new blog called Jobest, which is all about awesome places in and around Johannesburg to go to. The site is going to review all sorts of spots, from restaurants, to hotels, to shops, to resorts to parks, to pools, etc etc

So if you know of any places that you think would be worth our while checking out, even if it’s an underground gold plated volcano (you know how rare those are), then please drop me a mail and let me know about it so that we can get it on Jobest.

Restaurant Time: Burnside

February 21, 2013

burnside-9

There is a sweet little restaurant called Burnside (6 Burnside Ave Craighall, Johannesburg) which I absolutely love going to. It’s set up in a house with a awesome big porch in front of it. Their menu is not huge but their food is good. Lat night I went with Shane and our friends Leigh and Brad for supper and I had a smoked salmon and creme fraiche angel hair pasta, Shane had the fillet salad and Brad and Leigh had pesto linguini with mozzarella balls and parmesan. All the food was flipping delicious, in fact I’m seriously considering getting in my car right now and driving there to have it again, alone so I can order TWO portions without anyone looking at me like i’m nuts-a-roonie. We also had dessert, ice-cream with real (mmmmm) chocolate sauce and strawberries and mini pavlovas.

Damn it I’m hungry!

The Leopard

April 26, 2012

On Saturday I got to spend the afternoon with some of my best friends. We went to The Leopard on 4th ave in Parkhurst. It’s a very cool little restuarant and the food is great. The owner changes the menu up every once in a while, which is very refreshing, brave, but refreshing. I had mussels in a coconut sauce. It was delicious, my only gripe is that there wasn’t enough of them, I wish the bowl was double the size.

The actual shop is a mishmash of antique lights, paintings and crockery, which is just up my alley and there is always bananas, ice-cream and caramel fudge sauce on the menu. HELLO. What more could you ask for.

The Good Luck Club

March 8, 2012

The-Good-Luck-Club

So we are officially open. Open for lunch, open for dinner, open for cocktails, open for good times. The Good Luck Club is up and running and although it all still feels like a bit of a blur, it’s such a cool feeling to see it all shiny and new with it’s doors wide open (We actually opened Wolves almost at exactly the same time 2 years ago – March seems to be the month for us).
