Dusen Dusen

January 22, 2013

This collection is from a US label called Dusen Dusen which was created by Ellen Van Dusen. These pieces are all so much fun with their quirky bold prints and promise of comfiness. Ellen if you would like to send some of these over to South Africa for me to hold and love, I give you full permission.

– Ellen Van Dusen was born in Washington, DC and raised by architect parents in a vibrant, creative home . As a child, she sponge-painted her own clothes with her mom; as a teenager, she altered and re-dyed thrift store discoveries; in college, through a self-directed major at Tufts University, she studied the psychology of design and the brain’s reaction to visual stimuli. After graduating, she founded Dusen Dusen, a line of universally flattering basics driven by the prints she creates from scratch each season. Her inspiration is drawn from far-flung and unexpected places, like mid-century resort architecture, Italian industrial design, Scandinavian textiles, Google maps and handwriting, but all of her production is done in the USA.

New things to make me feel a little better.

April 16, 2012

For a while now Shane and I have been battling to get a bond for a flat that we found about a month ago, that we both fell in love with instantly. We have been going though such trauma with every single bank and SA Home Loans, they have all denied us twice and all because we are freelancers and because we own our businesses. We have tried everything to get this place and it’s been quite an emotional journey, which has now come to an end, leaving us without the flat of our dreams and all because we’re out here trying to make it for ourselves. Not sure of any of you have been through the same ordeal, if you have, you know that it is not awesome. It’s draining and frustrating and no matter what solution you come up with, it’s just not good enough. And we’re not even asking for that much, which is the worst part. If any of you have experienced this, all I can say is, I know how you feel….

So on Friday, after the last bank called us and denied the bond once again I decided to take myself to the shops and give some of my money to people who actually wanted it. I know this seems like a weird way to deal with something like this, but I just kind of thought, stuff it. So Shane got a bunch of cool stuff and I came home with these few pieces.

Found this pretty silk blouse with a print made out of leopard heads. I love the pattern and I love the little gold button detail on the collar. Thought it was such a nice touch. I found this guy at Zara.

Another thing I snagged was this grey jersey from Country Road that I have been eyeing out for quite some time now. It’s so comfy, I think it’s going to be one of my favourites this Winter.

I also brought home this paisley silk blouse, which also comes from Zara.

Orla Kiely Autumn/Winter 2012-13

February 28, 2012

This is Orla Kiely Autumn/Winter 2012-13 ready to wear collection. I spotted it on Jackie’s blog this morning. I really love all collar (especially the ruffled collar, wow) and bib details and use of patterned material – I think that’s a little fox floating around in there, so sweet. This collection looks like a uniform one would wear at a very fancy and private boarding school somewhere in Germany in 1949. And I mean this this in the BEST way possible, I love love this collection.

It’ll soon be Spring somewhere in the world, but not here.

January 24, 2012

It’ll soon be Spring somewhere in the world, but not here. Still wouldn’t say no to Madewell’s new Spring ’12 collection. Colours, patterns, amzingness. Sigh. Love love the red maxi skirt and denim shirt/jersey combo. Couldn’t wear the shoes though, I would look like a midget horse man in heels. Yes, it would be that bad.

Saw these beauties here.
