Alexander Tinei

July 12, 2012

Came across Alexander Tinei’s work and thought I would share it with you guys. He was born 1967 in Caushani, Moldova and lives and works in Budapest, Hungary. I find his work dark, yet fascinating and I like how his subject matter is almost common, but the style that he paints them in transforms them into something beautiful and far from common.

– Alexander Tinei ‘tattoos’ his subjects with blue markings that are layered onto finished portraits rather like painterly graffiti. At times applied heavily, like make-up, in other works delicate lines spread like veins or hairline cracks over flesh.

Mariette Bergh

May 11, 2012

I went to a Mariette Bergh exhibition a couple of months ago and of course I couldn’t leave without rewarding myself with one of her amazing works. I bought one of her reverse glass painting and ink on wood pieces. It’s called “You came on like a punch in the heart”. When I look at this piece for some reason it makes me sad, but in a good way….Thank you Mariette for being so talented. I’m super happy to be hanging your work up in our house.

Tea time. Art time.

March 12, 2012

A couple of weekends ago we went to Double Shot in Braamfontien for a tea tasting. I have never been to one before, but it was really interesting to hear about how different teas are made and where they come from. The only bad part about it was that my bladder was screaming blue murder afterwards, shame the poor little bugger.

We were actually tasting stuff for The Good Luck Club and at the end of the day we picked 6 for our menu. There is a pineapple and ginger rooibos, strawberry rooibos, Malawi green tea, hand-rolled Zomba pearls, which by the way is made from only the top 3 leaves of the tea plant that are then rolled into little parcels (see below). Masala chai and Thyolo black. So if you are feel like going on a tea adventure, pop in.

Can I please draw your face? I will make it nice, I promise.

On Friday last week I went to my postbox after work and found this envelope waiting for me. I had no idea who it was from, but when I pulled out what was in it, I was confronted by the most wondeful thing ever, a hand painted picture of a polaroid of Shane and I that I blogged about a while back.

This is one of the raddest things I think I have ever received, from I might add a perfect stranger, so Bianca Sgammini all I have to say is – Wow and you deserve a bench named after you in a fancy park. I mother-fing love this painting, it seriously made my whole day and weekend.
