Levis and Me: Fred Gatari

July 17, 2013

Everyone say hello to the very tall and the very sweet Freddy. This young kid is one of the funniest people I have ever met. If you ever run into him on the street ask him about his velcro clothing idea. Freddy is our next Levis and me face, so everyone say hello hi.

Last week’s Levis and Me: Candice Moore

Andrew will have a new person up on his site too soon

LEVIS-FRED

Name: Fred Gatari

Questions:

1. What city do you live in, and how long have you called it home? Johannesburg about six years, before that called a lot of obscure places home.

2.What do you do? I’m studying engineering at the moment, I’m also a waiter/entertainer at the Goodluck Club and spend the rest of my time trying to develop a talent.

3. What is one of the raddest things you have done wearing a pair of jeans? Three years ago I went to Rwanda to visit family and my mom brought me to the area where she grew up and it was practically at the foot of a volcano, so we decided to hike it and the views were pretty amazing.

4. If you could live in someone else’s ‘jeans’ for a day who would that person be? It would have to be Donald Glover there’s nothing he can’t do and he raps and if I rapped that would help my street cred which could be better.

5. What is the one thing/person that influences your style the most? Well my mom dresses me when I sleep so you would have to ask her, seriously though I just kind of get influenced by what I see around me.

6. Would you rather be half man half pineapple or half man or wet jersey? Well nothing worse than wet clothing, so I guess half human half pineapple but the amount of fruit puns that I would hear would get ridiculous.

Levis and Me: Jess Jorgensen

June 14, 2013

Here is another face is that is doing some interesting stuff in the JHB, everyone say hello to Jess. She little and sweet and knows how to wear these jeans like no ones business and for that I hate her (insert smily face here).

*Andrew has Justin A.K.A Sweat Face up on his blog today, check him out here.

Name: Jess Jorgensen

Questions:

1. What city do you live in, and how long have you called it home? Currently Joburg is home, recently moved up from Cape Town. I have the adaption skills of a woodpecker (did you know they have special cushioning in their brains, so they can hammer away and not end up braindead – how rad?) so I’ve moved a lot between SA and Europe. It’s cool getting to know a city intimately.

2. What do you do? Explore, cycle, listen, observe…with risk of sounding like a slashie, on top of the IG work I produce things like short documentaries and music videos for West African hiphop artists (sometimes the odd freebie for a local band). Also designer and daughter of my dad’s craft spirits business, Jorgensen’s Distillery.

3. What is one of the raddest things you have done wearing a pair of jeans? I’m in jeans nearly every day and do rad things nearly every day so this is hard. I dunno – maybe break into some broken building for exploratory purposes? I’ve cried real tears and literally fallen over watching some of my favourite bands live. Also we climbed to the base of the 2nd highest peak in the Himalayas – 5200m, freezing and hectic, we nearly died in a cyclone, and I was in jeans and a trusty pair of Chuck Taylors. True story.

4. If you could live in someone else’s ‘jeans’ for a day who would that person be? Sophia Coppola (to learn how she runs the world). For fun and because they’re just the coolest chicks ever: Patti Smith, Karen O or Alison Mosshart. Or all 3.

5. What is the one thing/person that influences your style the most? Comfort, and lack of gratuitous colour.

6. Would you rather have paws for feet or live completely normal for 80% of your life but randomly morph into a cat for the other 20%? Paws would be rad for quietly sneaking up on people and giving them a fright, but imagine living a life of 20% pure absolute luxury, pampering and ear scratches?! I prefer dogs, but cats are totally the boss.

Levis and Me: Daniela Riquelme Morales

May 15, 2013

LEVIS-Daniela-4

Spot number 12 in our Levis and Me project belongs to one Miss Daniela Riquelme Morales who is, as she puts it, a modern day pirate, which I think sounds like a pretty cool job. We shot her in this pretty Levis Nancy Dress and then asked her a few questions about herself…

Last weeks Levis and Me: Sophie Abendanon

Andrew also has a new post on his site about a girl named Candace.

Levis and Me: Shane Durrant

April 25, 2013

Levis and Me time again and today I have the pleasure of posting about my beautiful husband Shane. Hee. I’m not going to ramble on about him and make everyone want to throw tea at their computer screen, instead I’m going to let him tell you a bit about himself. Cool.

Hello Shane, hello…

Job: Barista (lol)

Questions:

1. What city do you live in, and how long have you called it home? I live in Jo’burg, city of gold (teeth). I moved here after high school about 10 years ago from a small rural dorpie called Pretoria (shout out to Die Moot).

2.What do you do? Indie Rock Singer (www.desmondandthetutus.co.za) / Flat White Maker (www.wolves.co.za) / Aspiring Rap Megastar (soundcloud.com/_real_special_guests) / Dim sum over-seer (thegoodluckclub.co.za)

3. What is one of the raddest things you have done wearing a pair of jeans? Back when we started Desmond & The Tutus, I had a very specific look in mind. It had to be t-shirt and skinny jeans (duh). But this is a good couple years ago and boys skinny jeans weren’t exactly common place. So, like many of our indie rock contemporaries, we had to make do with a pair of girls Levi’s. The fit was great but the fly was so small! One of the raddest things I have done in a pair of jeans – start a band with my buddies and play a gig to our friends (even if it was at the Blues Room in Village Walk).

4. If you could live in someone else’s ‘jeans’ for a day who would that person be? Any real jeans-connoisseur knows that a day isn’t enough, you need a fortnight at the very least to wear them in properly.

5. What is the one thing/person that influences your style the most? My darling wife Angie is certainly a beacon of light in the otherwise dark, hopeless hole that is my fashion sense.

6. Would you rather have white doves flying out from under your armpits every 17 minutes of every day or foul mouthed bears as legs? Definitely armpit doves. I’d hustle the bar circuit making bets with the locals. So when do I get my doves? Should I invoice you? Or will Levis send them to me directly? Let me know if I should collect or whatever, I’m easy.
