Thanks KWV for dinner in the sky.

May 29, 2011

Last week a lovely lady called Cat mailed me and my Lucky Pony and invited us to dinner in the sky with KWV wines. I immediately said yes and then wondered if I would know any other bloggers that would getting invited to this 100 foot in the air feast. In the end I was allowed to invite 2 other bloggers, so Jo and Emma-Jane were sent invites too, which I was super stoked about. We were all picked up from our houses and as it turned out in the end my friends Millie and Uno were also on the taxi.

Flip we had so much fun and we drank a lot of wine and champagne and kiwi and litchi champagne cocktails, one of my new favourite things after Saturday night.

Anyway we arrived and they strapped us into our chairs and then hoisted us up on a crane 100 feet into the air, i’m not going to lie, it was a bit flipping chilly, I thought I was going to freeze my imaginary nuts off, but we were wrapped up to the nines in woolen scarves, hats, gloves and red wine so it was all good. Dinner in the sky is an interesting affair, I can imagine being suspended near an ocean or mountain range must amazing! This was really cool because we got to see the city all lit up and stuff.

After we hung and ate, they took us to Fashion TV Cafe, now this is a place I have never set foot in before and probably never will again, it’s definitely not my scene, but they booked the whole upstairs section out just for us and we had our very own personal cocktail makers. Ha! We even made our own ones, I’m quite good at making them by the way. Yip if advertising fails, cocktail making here I come.

The other bloggers that I got to hang out with were so much fun. We’re hoping that if we ever get invited to one of these shindigs again they’ll invite the 5 of us as a team. We were all quite merry by the end of the night, which I guess was the point – point reached. Thanks KWV and Cat you guys rule some serious face!

Danette, thank you for the deer and the cupcake coddlers.

May 24, 2011

Jo’s sister Danette lives in Canada and every now and then she sends luckyface Jo a parcel from there filled with super rad things like clothes and buttons and and and. Well this time round she included something in there for me whoohohoh. Danette thank you so much for my quirky themed cupcake holders – them bitches are getting ginger bread cupcakes with marshmallow icing in them (A recipe my friend Robyn has shared with me and if she’s cool with it, I will share with you).

And thank you so much for the deer. Jo said you thought it looked like a dog cross with a deer. I agree. Haaha, whoever made him must have had one wild childhood in some messed up forrest somewhere ha!

Olie Ols, I love you.

May 23, 2011

Went to Stubbs’s house the other day to visit her and Olie. We had marshmallows, Bounty bars and a peanut butter, yoghurt and banana smoothies for lunch. Holy crap, by the end of the afternoon my face was bouncing off the walls. Olie also got in on the smoothie action – he’s so beautiful and so clever, he’s totally using the straw like a gentleman ha.

Peanut butter, yoghurt and banana smoothies:

Mush up 2 bananas. Add some full cream yoghurt and as much peanut butter as you like, cause no one is looking. Then blend them all together. You can add some milk to thin it out a bit. Jo introduced me to vanilla soy milk – wowzers that stuff is delicious, it’s like drinking a diluted cloud that accidently wondered off from the pack and into a drinking glass.

places to go

It’s a bingo.

May 3, 2011

On Sunday Jo and I went to a little/big place called Galaxy Bingo located on the east side of our city (Boksburg). We had been shopping before and then spontaneously decided to visit the bingo hall that I remember going to many years ago. It was still there, it still looked exactly the same, the food, which just by the way was awesome, slap chips and toasted sandwiches was the exactly same. The cards were the same, the carpets were the same, it was so cool.

Whilst we were playing Jo thought she had won and shouted bingo, which stopped the whole game and caused every old person in the room to mutter obscenities under their breath, but she hadn’t won, she still had 1 number to go. Then 2 numbers later she did have bingo and so we both shouted super loudly and then laughed for the next 6 minutes. It was funny to us. She won R245 smackers. It was the only win in our camp that day, but it was still super fun.

They wouldn’t let me take pictures inside, but here are some of us outside. Please note that the opening hours are 10am to 5am EVERYDAY. Yikes.

Happy happy Mareens.

Last night I had some of my very good friends (Gina King we missed you) over for supper and to plough through 3 bottles of champagne. My beautiful friend Marina (the one on the right) got engaged a couple of days ago and i’m so super happy for her. She briefly mentioned maybe having her wedding in Italy, we pushed for that idea ALL night hahaa! That would be so awesome.

Aaaa man I love weddings and engagements and all that stuff, they make me so happy and teary that I can never have my exact wedding day all over again – what a great day xxx

Last night I cooked my very first all vegan meal too. I made sweet potato coconut Thai curry soup with jasmine rice and it came out really nicely. It’s a really thick soup, so I guess it lands up being more like a curry, it has all nice strong ingredients in it, but when I added the coconut milk (there’s a lot of that) it kind of dulled a few of the flavours, so I added 2 freshly squeezed limes and some salt and pepper, the recipe doesn’t call for it, but I think they made it better. If you do try this recipe out – happy cooking and eating, yum.

* I have forgotten how awesome sweet potatoes are. Wow.
