 Questions:

1. What city do you live in, and how long have you called it home? I grew up in the smallest town called Louis Trichardt and Jozi became my home when I moved here at 18.

2.What do you do? I am a freelance Art Director in advertising.

3. What is one of the raddest things you have done wearing a pair of jeans? Bedazzling

4. If you could live in someone else’s ‘jeans’ for a day who would that person be? It wouldn’t be a person. It would be a cat. In a stone washed denim suit and bow tie. What a life.

5. What is the one thing/person that influences your style the most? Sir Oliver Geoffrey & Harold john Morrison tell me what not to wear. They are my very furry indoor Persians cats. In example; Don’t wear black because you will look like a mottled big foot with a polyester furr coat, stockings are a no no, your legs will look look like tree stumps and look like scratch pads to the average kitty.

6. Would you rather have jazz hands growing out the top of your head or spaghetti bolognaise for hair? Defs jazz hands – I was born to dance!

Questions:

1. What city do you live in, and how long have you called it home? Johannesburg. I have lived in several cities around the world but have to say Joburg has always been home. Whether i like it or not, we seem to be forever bound, sometimes I think like star-crossed lovers, other times more like an old cantankerous couple bitter and twisted from decades of misunderstanding.

2.What do you do? I am a filmmaker by training. A commercial director by trade. A frustrated polemic by night. A golfing bedroom dj on weekends.

3. What is one of the raddest things you have done wearing a pair of jeans? Fallen in love.

4. If you could live in someone else’s ‘jeans’ for a day who would that person be? I am not sure how often he wears them but Paul Thomas Anderson’s jeans have a certain allure. I imagine there is a pair that have been torn and patched over and over again, with lingering evidences of There Will Be Blood, Magnolia and Boogie Nights caught in the seams. Maybe not Boogie Nights so much.

5. What is the one thing/person that influences your style the most? I love mixing super fitted elegant stuff with street wear. It is like a mixture of old and young. Considering I am getting on now, somewhat reluctantly, this contrast is fitting.

6. Would you rather have an extra mouth on your forehead that sings Michael Bolton covers all day long or a chin that looks like Mr.Bean and thinks that it’s married to you, so it serenades you all day long? Thats easy. Michael Bolton. I feel that lending some unnecessary melodrama, and overzealous alto toned sincerity to my presence would be a great thing for those moments where the conversation dries up.

Levis and Me: Fred Gatari

July 17, 2013

Everyone say hello to the very tall and the very sweet Freddy. This young kid is one of the funniest people I have ever met. If you ever run into him on the street ask him about his velcro clothing idea. Freddy is our next Levis and me face, so everyone say hello hi.

Last week’s Levis and Me: Candice Moore

Andrew will have a new person up on his site too soon

LEVIS-FRED

Name: Fred Gatari

Questions:

1. What city do you live in, and how long have you called it home? Johannesburg about six years, before that called a lot of obscure places home.

2.What do you do? I’m studying engineering at the moment, I’m also a waiter/entertainer at the Goodluck Club and spend the rest of my time trying to develop a talent.

3. What is one of the raddest things you have done wearing a pair of jeans? Three years ago I went to Rwanda to visit family and my mom brought me to the area where she grew up and it was practically at the foot of a volcano, so we decided to hike it and the views were pretty amazing.

4. If you could live in someone else’s ‘jeans’ for a day who would that person be? It would have to be Donald Glover there’s nothing he can’t do and he raps and if I rapped that would help my street cred which could be better.

5. What is the one thing/person that influences your style the most? Well my mom dresses me when I sleep so you would have to ask her, seriously though I just kind of get influenced by what I see around me.

6. Would you rather be half man half pineapple or half man or wet jersey? Well nothing worse than wet clothing, so I guess half human half pineapple but the amount of fruit puns that I would hear would get ridiculous.

Questions:

1. What city do you live in, and how long have you called it home? I find myself living in Pretoria at this exact moment. Truthfully. I’ve never lived anywhere else.

2.What do you do? I am a designer although I’m a professional bear wrangler at heart. #danger

3. What is one of the raddest things you have done wearing a pair of jeans? Wrangled a whole cuddle of bears. Although half way through, the pants had to come off.

4. If you could live in someone else’s ‘jeans’ for a day who would that person be? Nic Slaughter from Tropical Heat. Shooting guns in man-hot-pants has got to be pretty darn rad!

5. What is the one thing/person that influences your style the most?  Jamie Hince. The Kills. Enough said.

6. Would you rather have an insect in place of a tongue that broke down all your food before you swallowed or have to live solely on deep fried insects for the rest of your life? If the insect was a lady bug. Then I’d go for option “A”. If not. I chose life.

Questions:

1. What city do you live in, and how long have you called it home? I live in Jo’burg, city of gold (teeth). I moved here after high school about 10 years ago from a small rural dorpie called Pretoria (shout out to Die Moot).

2.What do you do? Indie Rock Singer (www.desmondandthetutus.co.za) / Flat White Maker (www.wolves.co.za) / Aspiring Rap Megastar (soundcloud.com/_real_special_guests) / Dim sum over-seer (thegoodluckclub.co.za)

3. What is one of the raddest things you have done wearing a pair of jeans? Back when we started Desmond & The Tutus, I had a very specific look in mind. It had to be t-shirt and skinny jeans (duh). But this is a good couple years ago and boys skinny jeans weren’t exactly common place. So, like many of our indie rock contemporaries, we had to make do with a pair of girls Levi’s. The fit was great but the fly was so small! One of the raddest things I have done in a pair of jeans – start a band with my buddies and play a gig to our friends (even if it was at the Blues Room in Village Walk).

4. If you could live in someone else’s ‘jeans’ for a day who would that person be? Any real jeans-connoisseur knows that a day isn’t enough, you need a fortnight at the very least to wear them in properly.

5. What is the one thing/person that influences your style the most? My darling wife Angie is certainly a beacon of light in the otherwise dark, hopeless hole that is my fashion sense.

6. Would you rather have white doves flying out from under your armpits every 17 minutes of every day or foul mouthed bears as legs? Definitely armpit doves. I’d hustle the bar circuit making bets with the locals. So when do I get my doves? Should I invoice you? Or will Levis send them to me directly? Let me know if I should collect or whatever, I’m easy.
