Stockholm apartment

May 2, 2014

Just take a quick look at this damn fine apartment in Stockholm. How great are the high ceilings, wooden floors, huge windows, decor, checkered floors, furniture? Aaaaaa it’s like a pretty grown-up’s flat that wears pretty clothing and has a pretty face and a pretty job and a pretty life. Elgh.

Below is what the apartment looked like before this, it was till owned by the same person and it was nicely done up, but now it looks like it’s wearing a 24 carat gold Lindt chocolate bunny, if that makes sense. Of course it does.

Sorrento beach house

Share-Design-Inspiration-Blog-Sorrento-Beach-House-by-Shareen-Joel-Design-06

This beautiful, light and bright space is a weekend retreat that belongs to Melbourne interior architect and designer Shareen Joel. I love everything about it, the openness created by the natural light and use of white and timbre floors and then the darker spaces too, like the bathroom and outside shower. It’s situated near the beach and I can only imagine that it’s surroundings are as beautiful as this little holiday nook.

Superfront

December 10, 2013

How super clever is this idea from a company called Superfront in Sweden (obviously). Instead of throwing out old cabinets or cupboards in your house, why not give them a facelift? These guys have designed super cool exteriors and accessories that click over your old ones. All their fronts, handles and legs fit onto Ikea’s existing cabinet bases, which are the same cabinets that are used by just about every interior designer today, as well as those who hire carpenters to build expensive tailor-made accessories. Unfortunately we don’t have Ikea here, but I still think this idea is worth sharing, I think it’s super smart and so well designed.

Old-new cabinet

November 18, 2013

shoppers

I have been looking for a pigeon-hole cabinet for our dining room, I haven’t really come across any in a while, so when I saw this guy the other day in Newlands I decided that I would strap it to the roof of Shane’s car and bring it home. Apparently it came from an old government office. It wasn’t exactly the one I was picturing for our house, but I still liked it a lot.

I have only just started filling it up with stuff, but I’m amped that I finally have a nice spot for all my chain animals and horse heads and the wood goes so nicely against our light pink walls.

Thanks Rog for coming shopping with me, I love you my little housewife.

Thank you Pedersen + Lennard for the lovely cabinet

Pedersen-+-Lennard-10

How lucky are we? Our friends from Pedersen + Lennard sent us this amazing piece from their collection called the Stockholm Cabinet as a present for our new home. We went to go pick it up last week and today it’s sitting pretty in the middle of our new bookshelf, which we are still in the process of unpacking all our stuff into (we’re getting there).

For those of you who don’t know, Pedersen + Lennard are 2 talented young lads from Cape Town who run a local furniture design house that makes very cool products including lighting, furniture, storage and special commissions. The made our tables for The Good Luck Club.

Dokter-and-Misses-wardrobe2

Shane and I decided to take the cupboards out of new bedroom and instead have open rail wardrobes. We also used the existing cupboard space to extend our bathroom, which turned out super cool. Yesterday, our Dokter and Misses wardrobes arrived and I set about the daunting task of packing my side, Ill give you one guess as to which one that is. I went through my whole wardrobe and hung things that I like and things that I have bought and I haven’t worn much, probably because I have forgotten about them.
