awesome stuff, places to go

Abracadabra.

September 30, 2011

On Wednesday night I went out to supper with some friends of mine to The Orient in Melrose Arch, anyway at the end of our dinner when we were all busy ordering coffee, the guy sitting at the table next to us turned to my friend Candice and said “pick a card”. We all looked at him and then I pointed at his face and said “Its’s you, you’re David Blaine“. He was like “no I’m not” and I was like “yes you are”. And so to cut a semi-long coverstation short, it turns out I was right, it was David Blaine and we got to be part of some magic tricks for like half an hour. I’m not going to lie guys, he was amazing. I just couldn’t see how he was tricking us, I actually think he could of been using real magic, well that or he had an invisible man midget who was strapped to the bottom of our table switching things in and out for him. I watched with all my eyes and I just couldn’t see how he was doing stuff.

*I find it so funny that we all look like vampires in the first picture.

The R2 coin below was bent by myself, Bridgette and Julia using just the heat of our hands, or so we were lead to believe. All I know is, he asked us for a coin, pushed it into my hand, made me make a fist then placed the other girl’s hands over mine and while I squoze, they pushed and then BAM the coin was bent. I mean unfortunately it can’t be used ever again in any vending machine ever, but I guess it was worth it ha!

We were tricked and not just once a few times, it was flipping crazy! When we were talking about him outside the restaurant, we actually double checked to see if he wasn’t levitating somewhere behind us in a cloud of magic smoke listening in.

So yes we got to see David Blaine, he bought us each a shooter and gave us signed cards and now we can say that not only have we met Robert Pattinson at Melrose Arch (remember this hee), but David ‘Abracadabra’ Blaine too. Lucky lucky us x

So much of the fun

August 2, 2011

On Saturday night I had my belated birthday party at Wolves with my friend Frank. There was dancing and friends and pizza and punch (that made you feel like you had been punched in the ‘don’t sway from side to side’ part of your mindgrapes) and polaroids and stripes, lots of stripes. Everyone had to wear them, just one thing stripy, it was such a cool ‘prop’ for photos. I think all parties should be documented on instant film – It just makes everything look rad.

Thanks friends for making our birthday party so much fun. You are all kind face lady/men.

Instant.

The other day I was going through some of my instamax photos and I found these 3 pictures that I took. In a few years time they’re going to look even more vintage than they do now, especially the first and last one. Flip man, wish I could shoot everything with my Instamax, I defintely need to use it more.

How cool does Shane’s cousin look? (last photo) She’s like a charater straight out of Ferris Buller’s day off. You do all remember that movie right? Please say yes, if you guys don’t then that means i’m oooooold. Blegh. But seriously if you haven’t, watch it. Bam bam a chicka chicka (you will know what the hell this is if you’ve watched the movie, I think hahaa).

Happy happy Mareens.

April 28, 2011

Last night I had some of my very good friends (Gina King we missed you) over for supper and to plough through 3 bottles of champagne. My beautiful friend Marina (the one on the right) got engaged a couple of days ago and i’m so super happy for her. She briefly mentioned maybe having her wedding in Italy, we pushed for that idea ALL night hahaa! That would be so awesome.

Aaaa man I love weddings and engagements and all that stuff, they make me so happy and teary that I can never have my exact wedding day all over again – what a great day xxx

Last night I cooked my very first all vegan meal too. I made sweet potato coconut Thai curry soup with jasmine rice and it came out really nicely. It’s a really thick soup, so I guess it lands up being more like a curry, it has all nice strong ingredients in it, but when I added the coconut milk (there’s a lot of that) it kind of dulled a few of the flavours, so I added 2 freshly squeezed limes and some salt and pepper, the recipe doesn’t call for it, but I think they made it better. If you do try this recipe out – happy cooking and eating, yum.

* I have forgotten how awesome sweet potatoes are. Wow.

Quick, drop the fillet and fetch the eyeliner!

February 1, 2011

Last night I had a gang of 5 boys to feed. Yikes! Whenever I have to cook for lots of people, especially boys I always get nervous that I won’t make enough food (that’s the Greek coming out in me) so I bought double of everything and the biggest piece of fillet I have ever dragged home. I made my mom’s fillet mushroom pasta recipe – YUM. It seemed to have gone down a treat, which made me very happy.

My friend Dave bought over a bottle of wine that he thought I would love because it was called ‘We call this Dancing’, what he didn’t realise was that it was made by The Parlotones. Hmmm…I don’t really like the Parlotones like AT ALL, so it only seemed right that we pull out my eyeliner and take pictures of ourselves looking like dramatic fools. I will however say one thing good about it, after a glass and a half I slept like well hidden baby bear. Yes.

Here is the recipe if anyone is keen x

Polaroids, you’ve been dated.

January 24, 2011

The other day before my holidays were over I decided to pull out all my polaroids and date them. I looked them up on my blog and on my computer and I managed to date more or less all of them. It was quite a mission, but now i’m so glad I did it.
