So much of the fun

August 2, 2011

On Saturday night I had my belated birthday party at Wolves with my friend Frank. There was dancing and friends and pizza and punch (that made you feel like you had been punched in the ‘don’t sway from side to side’ part of your mindgrapes) and polaroids and stripes, lots of stripes. Everyone had to wear them, just one thing stripy, it was such a cool ‘prop’ for photos. I think all parties should be documented on instant film – It just makes everything look rad.

Thanks friends for making our birthday party so much fun. You are all kind face lady/men.

Here are some pictures that my friend Ross took of us on the farm. Man alive, this man has crazy camera skills and for this I secretly hate him slash wish I was him. Thanks for the memories Ross-o-rama x

Check out Ross’s work here and be sure not to be holding a sharp knife when you do so, cause you just might stab yourself.

Lets go away before my 3rd foot kicks me in the face.

June 27, 2011

I think everyone, once in a while needs to get out of the city. This weekend we went away for our friend’s birthday to another friend’s farm in Carolina. It was the same place we went to for my birthday 2 years ago and it’s taken us this long to go back. It was so amazing just sitting around talking rubbish, drinking port, eating braai-ed amazingness. I forget how beautiful the outside is, how cool it is to just sit in the sun and not worry about the internet or SMS’s or whose been voted off Project Runway.

We went on walks, we threw knives at a giant tree, we watched some of the boys jump undies first into freezing cold water. We had an epic eggs/bacon/tomato/toast/museli/fruit/baked beans/fried bananas/orange juice breakfast, we sat around a fire and played ‘would you rather’ for like 4 hours, that was one of the high-lights of the trip ha! Do all of you know what ‘would you rather’ is? Prepare yourselves – you go around the group and everyone gets a chance to pose a question similar to this: “Would you rather have a babies foot growing out your forehead or be buried alive on top of Barry Wronger for a month whilst being fed through a communal straw?” OR “Would you rather have baked apples for feet or pee through your mouth forever and a day?”

The best part about this game is not only how ridiculous and dark you can get, but how for like 10 minutes after the question has been posed, there is a heated discussion on who would do what and why their choice is better than yours. Trust me it’s too much fun!

Well anyway after this happy weekend I now know 2 things for sure, I would be more than happy living with a babies foot growing out my forehead and we definitely need to get out to the outdoors more often. Definitely. Thank you friends for the good times x

Cooking classes.

June 20, 2011

On Saturday morning a bunch of friends and I went to a Karma cooking class. I have never cooked an Indian dish before, so I was quite excited to do so. It was loads of fun! You get a chef’s hat with your name on it, I made mine too big for myself by mistake and so walked around like a gangster cook half the time. You get your recipes and all the ingredients, a glass of sangeria and off you go.

It was such a strange experience because you are cooking with your friends and everyoen’s chatting, having fun, but it feels like you’re on the Amazing Race and you have to win, well at least that’s how I felt ha! So i’m with my friends and it’s NOT and I repeat, not a competition, but something in my brain was making me feel like it was. Maybe it was my giant hat clouding my vision, who knows. It was super fun and we all did so well, we really did and at the end we got to sit around a big table and share each others dishes like friends sitting around a big table.

Jo and I got to make lentil rice with fish and aubergine masala. As soon as the lady that taught us mails through the recipes, I will share them with you guys, because it was quite easy to make and really really delicious.

If you guys are looking for something fun to do with some friend, I would seriously recommend a 1 day cooking class x x

Chocolate pudding was a hit, not that I would know. Sad face.

June 17, 2011

On Wednesday night some friends and I went to Marina’s house for supper, gluhwein, port, chocolate pudding and old episodes of Friends. Watching Friends was so funny and a little depressing because we were all actually quite young when it was first on our TV screens, which makes us oldies now ha! Man, 90’s fashion was so wrong, just plain wrong and wrong again. Jeans too high and narrow. Chiffon skirts and hotpants, yikes! Waistcoats, but bad waistcoats and the shoes, oh the shoes, i’m still shuddering when I think about the clunky shoes. But despite the onslaught of 90’s fashion eyesores, we had such a cool evening. The food was amazing and gluhwein makes me very very happy.

As you can see i’m taking full advantage of my instagram app, you can follow me if you want xx i’m called  miss_luckypony x xx

I attempted the chocolate pudding recipe I posted about a while back. It came out really nicely, or so I was told. I’ve given up chocolate for the a little tiny while, I have a bet on with my copywriter, the first one to cave and trust me their have been moments, has to come to work wearing high pigtails for the whole day (me in pigtails, not a pretty sight) and carrying cash money to take the other one out for a fancy lunch.

Well anyway I didn’t have any, but Stubs scoffed hers down in about 6 minutes, so it must of been nice.

It was a really easy dessert to make if any of you are considering making it, but do keep in mind that I had to double the recipe to make 4 decent jars of it. Cool.

RECIPE:

* 2 tablespoons cornstarch

* 1/8 teaspoon (just a pinch) salt

* 1/3 cup cocoa powder

* 1/2 cup maple syrup or sweetener of choice

* 2 large egg yolks, lightly beaten

* 2 cups milk

* 2 tablespoons butter

* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:

In a medium saucepan, whisk together the cornstarch, salt, cocoa powder, and maple syrup until smooth. In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk and egg yolks. Slowly whisk the milk & yolks into the mixture in the pan. Set the heat to medium and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Boil and stir for 1 minute  Remove from heat and stir in the butter & vanilla. Serve warm (over ice cream) or chilled (with whipped cream).

Dinner’s up. Bring your pet and dig in.

On Friday we had some our friends over for some supper and chats. It was so nice. Friends are so nice. Shane and I have decided to have way more suppers this year. So friends, you have been warned hee.

Before everyone left I finished off my disposable camera, it had exactly 8 shots left. Perfect.

Look at the awesome little guy Cath and Doug made me. Cath drew him and then Doug made him with his own little dougy hands. He is amazing!
