Richard Hart – Night and Light and Neverness

Quite a few years ago I bought my very first real piece of art from a gallery in Cape Town. It was this Richard Heart print entitled “who ever you want me to be”. I was so desperate to own one of his original paintings that were on sale that night, but they were a bit too pricey for me back then. Even the framed print was quite a bit, but I loved it and I’m so happy I bought it because it started my obsession with art.

Conrad Botes

I went into the Stevenson Gallery the other day, to see the Conrad Botes’s exhibition called Zombie Babylon that is up at the moment. It’s made up of a whole lot of small paintings that tell a very dark tale, 2 very interesting and quite scary sculptures and a series of large very vibrant paintings of iconic images. It’s a great show and it’s so much better in person than it is in photographs, so if you have some free time go on by, closes after the 15th of December, so hurry.

Southern Guild – Everard Read Gallery Johannesburg

The other day I went to go visit the Everard Read Gallery, which is currently hosting the Southern Guild 2012 collection which showcases Top Contemporary SA Design. I was blown away by some of the pieces. Unfortunately I couldn’t really afford to buy anything, plus the painting I loved the most had no price, but instead had a black sticker on it, which probably means “don’t even think about it”.
