Eat, Drink & Be Merry

December 5, 2016

eat-drink-be-merry-1

It’s always been a dream of mine to put together a Lucky Pony recipe book, I think about it all the time, how I would shoot it, what I would include. One day when I have loads of free time (when I’m 65!!) maybe I will get around to making one. So when I saw that the ladies over at The Pretty Blog have just come out with their very own Eat, Drink & Be Merry Festive Recipe Collection I was a tad jealous but also so happy because it’ such a nice book and you can see how much time, effort and love has gone into it.

I follow this lot on Instagram and they are always collaborating and posting the most amazing looking things, so I was excited to page through this book with 25 of their favourite recipes from their blog, including a selection of drinks, starters, mains, sides and dessert.

La Fede

November 30, 2016

la-fede

If you haven’t heard of La Fede let me tell you a bit about them…they are a local kiddies label whose design takes on a minimalistic approach that lives in a quirky, whimsical world that feeds children’s imaginations.

I bought one of their wooden cameras a few months ago from The Rock-A-Bay Fair so today when my two baby Durrants received a package from the lovely Chantelle, who is the creative hand behind La Fede, I got really excited! When I unwrapped the contents I think I squealed as loud as Nina James did because these toys are amazing in that they have that old-school vintage wooden toy and handmade woolen doll feel, but they’re really unique and cool too.

GIVEAWAY: Hello new guest room

November 4, 2016

hello-new-guest-room-web

Just recently we moved Nina James out of her first ever bedroom into one of the bigger rooms in our flat so that she could have a bunk bed and more space to play and run around. Her old bedroom has been sitting empty or let me rephrase that, has been used as a place for us to store all the stuff  that gets in the way for over a month now. A real refresh of that space was needed and so I tried to think of clever and cost effective ways to turn it from a glorified storeroom into a cool, clean guest bedroom that hopefully our guests would be happy to sleep in.

Stokperd

November 2, 2016

stokperd
I really like it when my doorbell rings letting me know that there is a delivery on its way up to my house. I like it even more so when the parcel is a surprise gift from the one and only Stokperd and Hope Gin.

When I unwrapped the delivery I was so surprised and excited to have this absolutely beautiful gold drinks tray crafted by Stokperd standing in front of me along with a bottle of probably one of the nicest gins I have ever tasted, Hope Gin.

I have been wanting a drinks trolly for a while now, but hadn’t found one that I really liked and was really excited to bring home and add to our collection of things and now I’m so glad that I never ever did find that ‘perfect’ trolley because it’s currently standing in my house.

trick-or-treat-exhibition-3

Trick or Treat is the latest exhibition up at Wolves Cafe. It started at the beginning of the month and is coming down on the 3rd of November and because it’s a Halloween the very talented Imile Wepener thought it would be cool to have a themed group illustration exhibition, which I’m very excited to say I’m a part of. Mine are the old vintage photos with the faces drawn on them, I had so much fun making them.

So if you pop in you can expect originals and prints from some of the best illustrators around, this show is a real treat so be sure to check it out.

I have definitely blogged about South African Illustrator Maria Lebedeva before because she makes the most precious little drawings of animals and people, fruit and more and I think her work is just magic.

Maria’s paintings and drawings are so delicate and whimsical and every time she has a showing I feel the need to buy half the exhibition! Her new exhibition at Wolves has just gone up and comprises of a series of small delicate pieces, some original and some prints. It really is worth coming in to see them in person, there are some lovely things happening and I almost guarantee that you’ll leave with more than one and the best part is that once you have bought a print you can go home with it immediately.

Her prints start at about R180 (which is amazing) and her originals go up to R500. Her show is up until the end of the month but do try to get there as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.

Maria is also working on a second storybook, which I can’t wait to buy, she also has a series of greeting cards that she has designed that are available at Exclusive Books under a label called Stuff From Africa.
