A week ago I tried to make Boston Cream Cupcakes for the very first time. Now for those of you who don’t know what a Boston Cream Cupcake is, let me explain. They are vanilla sponge cupcakes filled with homemade vanilla custard, which are then smothered in rich chocolate icing. Sound good? You’re nodding yes right now, aren’t you?
Peanut Butter and Chocolate Hi-Hat Cupcakes
I’m always collecting recipes for new baked goods, I hardly ever get around to most of them because this thing called time is sometimes scarce, but I still like collecting them because one day I feel like I will make some of them, especially the Peanut Butter and Chocolate Hi-Hat Cupcakes directly below – damn they’re like evil fat devils calling out me, I know I should look away, but I can’t.
All recipe links are below the respective photos. Happy looking and if you’re baking, then happy baking too.
Tomorrow is love day and we are baking a bunch of nice cupcakes for Wolves for you and your smoochy face. We are also staying open late tomorrow night, so if you feel like some love cake and a drinkie after supper, come on over.
And if you email us on hello@wolves.co.za we’ll even write your initials on the cupcakes, because let’s face it nothing says I love you like a cake with your name on it or a diamond encrusted car, which ever suits your credit card more.
On Sunday Shane and I had 24 cupcakes to decorate for Gina, they were for her nephew David’s birthday party. We dyed some plastic icing (like marzipan) and then stamped out “Happy Birthday David”. Then we decorated them with glitter and dinosaurs and sprinkles and wobbly eyes. We were quite chuffed with the way they turned out. What do you do you guys think?
*My only advice when dying your own plastic icing is wear gloves. By the end of it my hands looked like 2 pink squids wearing a wedding ring.
Gina came past to fetch them and she bought with her Charlotte her teacup pug that is a few weeks old. Oh my word I had to stop myself from squashing it into a ball and icing it for tea. It’s sooooo cute! I want one.
Last night I baked chocolate peanut butter cupcakes that I got off this awesome site called Joy the Baker. They turned out really nicely and were easy to make, but what I was really quite chuffed with was the peanut butter icing. I think i’m going to bake my fluffy chocolate cake (the best chocolate cake ever!) that I usually ice with gnache and instead ice it with peanut butter icing. Holy crap, my jean button is going to hate me!
These awesome choking hazards are available at the shop right now, so come on past and enjoy….
*if anyone makes them, mail me pleeeease, if you can manage to pick yourself up off the couch x x oh and guys I used brown sugar instead of cane sugar, couldn’t find it in the shops.
So I finally picked a recipe to try out from my Martha Stewart cupcake book. Yes finally! And they came out perfectly. Just a warning though guys, it makes 30 cupcakes so make sure you have all your sweet teeth out and some stretchy fat pants on or invite lots of friends over for a tea party. For the icing I used a simple butter cream recipe and then added pale pink gel coloring, but just a couple of drops…. you can also throw some finely cut up strawberries into the icing and mix it up for a difference. There is a royal butter cream icing that they recommend for this specific cupcake, but I didn’t have time to make it, I will try it next time though.
Here are what mine came out like…. and they were quite yum.
*I will be making a fresh batch for Thursday night at Wolves. Come have a taste xxxx
