Amber Smith I hate you, I love you.

December 11, 2012

Amber-Smith-10

Do you guys remember a post I did a while back on one Miss Amber Smith? She asked me if I would like to be a part of a zine she was designing as part of a university project. If you don’t, just click here to see what an amazing job she did. The whole idea was centred around people’s collections. She came and took photos of me with my many ceramic animals and then asked me a few questions about my unhealthy obsession with them. She also interviewed a guy that collects slinkies, watches, knives and a lady who collects crystal animals.

Colenimo

November 9, 2012

This is Colenimo’s Summer/Spring 2013 collection, I have never heard of this label before, I spotted it on Pony Anarchy today and I became an instant fan. I WOULD LIKE EVERYTHING. Thanks.

I then went to check out their site and got to set my eyes on their Autumn & Winter 2012/13, which is just as pretty as the Summer collection. Oh guys please send me a box of your pretty stuff. I will forever be grateful and happy. Forever.

The Collector’s Edition

October 29, 2012

A few months back a young lady by the name of Amber mailed to ask me if I would be keen to be a part of her university project. She was designing a zine that was all about people and their collections. She came around to my house to interview me and take pictures of my ceramic animal collection so that she could illustrate them at a later stage.

I met her, we chatted, I smiled for some photographs and then a few days ago she sent me the finished product and I love it. It’s such a cool little piece and I think she has done a pretty damn good job at designing it.

Thanks Amber for thinking of me and for drawing me and my ceramics so beautifully. Amber is also going to send me a hardcopy, which I’m going to keep till I’m old and buried under my inevitable future collection of 6378 ceramic animals. Sorry Shanie.

Here are a few pages from the zine, I have also included a few of the other people she illustrated.

Things organized neatly

October 29, 2012

Things organized neatly is a site I stumbled across the other day. It has loads of photos full of organized items all laid out like little soliders going to war.

I like things to be neat and tidy, in fact one of my fondest memories of my childhood is me sitting in the middle of a big rug my mom had in the TV room brushing out the tassels that made up its border, so that all of them were all straight and perfectly flat. I used to love doing that.

Natalie Creed Summer 13

August 17, 2012

This is the talented Natalie Creed’s new Summer 13 collection, which not only did she design but did all the photography for too together with her friend Ami Hawley who art directed the shoot with her. So not only is she talented with the fabric but with the magic box too. Not fair.

Natalie mentions that she wants her clothing to evoke a feeling of playing dress up, which I think is exactly what this collection does. These pieces are full of fun and youthfulness and the colour pallet is like candyfloss soaked in lemonade… And this is why I will let Natalie explain the actual inspiration behind her collection because if I had to, I don’t think any of you would know what I was talking about ha! Natalie, take it away…

– For this collection was really a mash up of emotions and confusion about where I wanted to take my label. With people telling me I needed to cater for the corporate market if I wanted to make it financially, I reacted by being overly true to my feminine, girly style, using glittery tulle, head to toe matching florals, lace and an abundance of ruffles! I think some sensibility did however remain in the wearability of the collection. It has a balance of young playfulness and sophisticated modernism. I had fresh inspiration from a muse’s whispers of Rococo and Oriental richness, which became underlying threads throughout the collection.

I hope that when girls wear these pieces, they’ll be transported back to their youth. The clothes should evoke a feeling of playing dress up. When mixed with a bit of grunge or minimalism, however, the pieces can have a more modern, grown up appearance.
