Rakky

February 19, 2016

Rakky-2

I’m very excited to tell you guys that Adi and I have finally come up with a name for our collective, we’re calling it Churche (website is on it’s way) and we’re so excited to do more shoots together and build this little project into something super awesome. Ps: If any of you are keen to follow us on Instagram here is our handle Churche_za.

We just recently got together again to shoot a new look book for a Cape Town accessory label called Rakky. Rachel is the talented force behind these handmade, hand painted one-of-a-kind beauties which I’ll have you know are even more awesome in real life. After looking at these necklaces we knew that they would be perfect for one of our shoots and because they’re so playful and colourful it felt like they needed a setting that would match their quirky charm, so Adi and I lovingly built them some cat hats, as one would. We then paid one of our favourite places in Johannesburg a visit Cataholics and there together with our awesome model Lenny from Bye Beneco and our six handmade hats we created this new series for Rakky.

Erdem Pre-Fall 2016

Erdem Pre-Fall 2016

I have only just come across Erdem’s Pre-Fall 2016 collection on Vogue and I’m blown away. All these pieces are so beautifully Victorian and detailed in best way! I do however find it quiet amusing that when I look at these dresses they make me think that if you were the type of person to wear them it would mean that you have crazy rich parents who live in a castle and bought you ponies, not a pony for your birthday every year. If you know what I mean.

Maxi dress, maxi delicious monster

January 31, 2016

angie-batis durrant

Are any of you suckers for maxi dresses like I am? I like them mostly because I hate short things that parade my white legies, so when I find one that I like I don’t hesitate to pull out the old credit card and swipe. I was in Rosebank over the weekend where I found this very pretty delicious monster print dress from I Love Leroy. It’s long, it has a nice print and it has pockets. I think all dresses should come with pockets for snacks and things of that nature and I think that when you buy a dress with pockets it should come with prepackaged snacks, like chocolate covered raisons mmmmmm.

Local Christmas gift ideas

December 9, 2015

picnic ceramics brooche

So it’s almost Christmas time, it’s almost time to pack up your desk, turn off your computers and just forget about everything that involves the word work. Yay! If you guys are anything like me then you started buying Christmas presents like a month ago already, yip I’m that hardcore. I love buying presents and I get so excited if I find something that I know the recipient is going to love 100%. It makes me so happy and this year it’s been so much fun buying things for Nina James too. I mean all this festive stuff is still a bit lost of her, but I’m getting a kick out of it so it’s ok hehe.

For this post I thought about all the local labels that I absolutely love and wouldn’t mind getting for Christmas and I complied a list WITH links, so if you see something that you fancy you can “accidentally” send the link to the one you love or just buy it for yourself. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying yourself a few or a lot of Christmas presents.

Margot Molyneux – Colour Field S/S16

December 2, 2015

Margot Molyneux - Colour Field S/S16

My friend Margot Molyneux has just released her new collection called Colour Field and it is full of wonderfully textured and coloured pieces that are so so pretty. There is so much of this collection that I know would make my wardrobe so happy and I really like this photoshoot too. Nice one Margot.

– Colour Field is an attempt to translate Helen Frankenthaler’s aesthetic of large areas of single colour into a pattern that complements the simple, clean aesthetic and soft, textured fabrics we’re known for. We’ve used her approach as inspiration to build a colour palette where soft greens, blues, pinks and yellows live beautifully together.

Skagen Denmark

November 29, 2015

SKAGEN DENMARK

A few weeks back I was asked if I would shoot a series of photos for Skagen Denmark. Skagen make really pretty watches and the brief that was given to me was nice and open and seeing as I have been wanting to do more considered photoshoots, I decided to dust my art director’s hat off and I set up a shoot with my good friend Leigh as the model and my talented friend Adi as the stylist.

I wanted all the photos in this series to feel effortless, but considered and I really wanted them to have a haunting feeling but in a good way. We spent a whole afternoon getting these photos just right and even though I had bruised knees afterwards and Leigh was literally bruised from head to toe, we had so much fun shooting them and I cannot wait to plan and photograph more projects like this.

In fact off this shoot, my friend Adi and I started a creative collective called Churche which we are planning to shoot a whole lot more projects just like this one under. So if anyone is keen to get in touch with us, just drop me a mail.
