Churche – Peek

I’m so excited to show you guys the entire series that we (Churche) shot for a great initiative called Peek created by the Craft and Design Institute to showcase beautiful products made locally in South Africa. Peek has an online store that stocks a lot of really cool products made by an array of people who are located all over South Africa from city centers to rural areas.

We wanted to do something different in order to showcase some of the items you can buy on the site, so we ordered a variety of things that we liked and we made outfits out of them to use in our shoot. We then got the beautiful Gladys Brown onboard and shot on the amazing grounds of Hertford Country Hotel.

Daphne Accessories – Churche

This year I promised myself that I would try to do as many shoots as I can with Adi under our label Churche. We love working with local labels, we love the time and effort that has been put into designing or creating what they have to offer and that’s why we were so excited to shoot these beautiful hand rolled scarves made by Daphne Accessories.

These locally manufactured scarves are designed by Danica, who is super sweet and really talented! I love her quirky designs because they are unlike anything I have ever seen before and they involve cats! Made in South Africa from Kashibo fabric with hand-rolled edges, these pieces will have you feeling super fancy in no time. Another awesome thing about Daphne Accessories is that all her scarves are limited edition pieces, so if you buy one you’ll be one of only a lucky few to have that specific print. How cool is that?!

Henriette Botha

Adi and I have been dying to do a Churche shoot! The last time we worked together I was so huge and almost ready to give birth to my baby Rex. It’s been a good few months since we’ve teamed up to shoot something for our little collective and that’s why I’m so excited to share this new series with you that we created for local jewelry designer Henriette Botha’s new range.

African Bazaar

This is a photographic project that I have really been wanting to share with you guys and now I finally can! Near the end of last year Adi and I under Churche worked together with the awesome folk from The Spanish Coalition on a little project called African Bazaar. Working with the team behind this and the amazing Emy (I mean how beautiful is she?!) was such a treat and I’m so happy with the end result. Please let me know what you think of it, I would love to hear your thoughts.

The Spanish Coalition’s (who are a great little advertising agency if you’re looking for one) concept behind this project is really cool – African Bazaar’ was inspired by the informal economy of this city. This catalogue exhibits some of the bizarre and miscellaneous things you can buy in and around the streets of Jozi.

Matthew Mole – Holding On

Yay I’m so excited for you guys to see this ‘little’ project that I got to work on with my friends Matthew Mole, Adi Koen and Alastair Thomas. A few weeks back we shot Matthew’s new music video for his latest single ‘Holding On’. We had loads of fun coming up with the scenarios in this video as well as art directing and styling it! I love my job, it changes all the time and I get to a part of cool things like this, which makes me very happy!

Well done to everyone who worked on this, I’m sending out high-5’s to you all and well done Matthew for writing such nice songs and for most importantly, letting us drop 202 viennas on your head.

Kimmy & Bear clothing

I’m so excited to show you guys this shoot that Churche did for Kimmy & Bear’s first ever clothing collection inspired by their childhood. We were briefed by the team to come up with something whimsical and pretty and so we built three giant animals made out of real foliage that became props and playing companions for everyone on set. We really enjoyed working on this shoot because all the little models and clothes were just too beautiful for words!

The new collection comes from the fact that when the three sisters that make up Kimmy & Bear were young their mom used to dress all of them in matching outfits that she made from patterns very similar to the amazing little outfits you are going to see now. The collection is reminiscent of those sweet childhood memories that we all have tucked away in some forgotten place. It also makes me wish that I had magical witch powers that turned children’s clothes into big people’s clothes! What about us Kimmy & Bear?!!
