Bang bang! Don’t shoot, you might break something.

January 23, 2012

If you read my blog you will know that I have a slight obsession with all things ceramic. Here are a few pieces i’ve spotted along the way that I wouldn’t mind getting my obessed little paws on.

Love this teapot by Dennis Shields. If someone doesn’t make your tea just the way you like it, you can conveniently take them the hell out, without even having to get up. Bang bang.

This wonderful piece of art by Makiko Nakamura.

These great wedding cake toppers. If I had known these exsisted 3 years ago, I so would of ordered one. Anyone getting married soon and in need of the best cake topper in the world that will have even your boring-est aunt oohing and aaa-ing over it?

Found these absolutely beautiful porcelain mobiles by LE PETIT ATELIER DE PARIS on the Pretty Pretty blog. The wolf one is my most favourite, he has a pet cat and his own camera, it’s me, by ceramic wolf me.

My friend Adriana makes these pretty pieces, she draws so well. Hello Adriana xx

She also pointed me in the direction of this little guy, who in turn led me to the salt and pepper sailing boats.

Let’s face it I could go on forever with this post, but I think I’ll end here before I bore you all to ceramic death.

This is the work of one Mr. Andres Gallardo, the unique and grand pieces below are part of his Broken Porcelain jewellery range

Inspired by elements of flora and fauna, this collection combines metal, leather and crystal fragments with porcelain figures that have been reworked and set into whimsical, nature-based jewellery pieces. Porcelain figures are broken and repolished by hand and then assembled into subjective and sometimes surrealistic compositions.

My friend Paula owns Vamp Furniture at no. 368 Albert Road, Woodstock, 7945, Cape Town (opposite the Old Biscuit). I have only been to her old shop a couple of times, which was jam packed full of crazy cool stuff and I have no doubt that the new one (pictured above) is even radder. She stocks all sorts of nicknacks, antique furniture, (some which she and her hubby re-vamp) and bits and bobs, that always have my inner granny doing flick-flacks when I’m there. Damn it, I wish you were closer friend, I swear I would probably try secretly live in your shop. Jokes. No jokes.

Paula sent me this awesome no-necked family in the mail the other day because she knows how obsessed I am with chained creatures. Thank you my friend, I’ve named them Paula 1, Paula 2 and Paula 3 xx xx If you guys haven’t been to her shop yet, you should totally try go, I have no doubt that you will come home carrying something from the 70’s and smiling like a slightly high cheshire cat.

Scoot over bunny, the Measle family is moving in.

I went antique hunting with Shane’s mom the other morning, we didn’t have much time, but they were here from Rustenburg and Shane’s mom really wanted to go to Newlands, so off we went. We had a good look around at some stuff, but I didn’t have the urge to buy anything, nothing was really grabbing my attention. I did however find another chain family for my ever growing chain-family-gang. Soon enough they’re going to take over and form some sort of ceramic cult, i’ve already had to start moving some animals out of the cabinet to accommodate them, but I love them so much.

So welcome chain-family number 9 xx

Look at this creepy doll collection we saw. Jo I know you’re jumping up and down looking at this picture, I need to take you to this shop. As for me, I wouldn’t dare have any of these guys in my house! The movie Child’s Play (1988) made sure that any love I had for dolls went flying right out the flipping window. Elghghg still get shivers when I think of Chucky and his head of red matted locks. Scary stuff man.

COOL STUFF

Design Indaba Expo

February 24, 2011

Every year at Design Indaba there is an expo that happens were many talented people gather to show their talented stuff which is then skillfully acquired by talented credit cards far and wide. I didn’t have a lot of time to walk around, but I managed to snap a few pictures of some very cool stuff, that I wish was sitting nicely packed in my suitcase right about now. I bought a couple of things, but I think i’m going to go back tomorrow after a good nights rest to see if I can damage my card a bit more.
