ANTIQUES, PLACES

Gina King is now a Anderson

February 8, 2012

I have been in the Cape for the last few days, getting ready for and attending my best friend Gina King’s wedding in Stellenbosch, she got hitched there on a beautiful farm. The wedding was very very pretty and super fun and she looked amazing. I was one of her bridesmaids, Amy (you remember talented Amy?) made my bridesmaids dress for me and she did a damn good job. Thank you Gina King and Beardface for the lovely wedding and for the dancing into the dark night and thank you Amy for the dress and Luke and Jen (Shane’s cousins) for the lodgings and chats till 12:55 in the morning and thank you CT for the good times.

In the Cape with hound and cat.

February 1, 2012

My best friend Gina King is getting married on Saturday afternoon in Stellenbosch and I have come to the Cape with her and her family to help set up the wedding. I’m also a bridesmaid, which i’m super happy about – My friend Amy made me such a beautiful dress for the occasion, I will be sure to post about it.

I unfortunately have limited internet usage, so I’m going to be out of action for the next few days. But don’t worry everything will be back to normal soon. Expect more posts and a new awesome giveaway will be starting next Wednesday. See you later x

*These 2 were chilling at the guest farm Gina is staying at. They were the sweetest things. Wonder if they will both fit in my suitcase?

My friend Paula owns Vamp Furniture at no. 368 Albert Road, Woodstock, 7945, Cape Town (opposite the Old Biscuit). I have only been to her old shop a couple of times, which was jam packed full of crazy cool stuff and I have no doubt that the new one (pictured above) is even radder. She stocks all sorts of nicknacks, antique furniture, (some which she and her hubby re-vamp) and bits and bobs, that always have my inner granny doing flick-flacks when I’m there. Damn it, I wish you were closer friend, I swear I would probably try secretly live in your shop. Jokes. No jokes.

Paula sent me this awesome no-necked family in the mail the other day because she knows how obsessed I am with chained creatures. Thank you my friend, I’ve named them Paula 1, Paula 2 and Paula 3 xx xx If you guys haven’t been to her shop yet, you should totally try go, I have no doubt that you will come home carrying something from the 70’s and smiling like a slightly high cheshire cat.

Toffie.

March 22, 2011

Have any of you heard of the Toffie Festival which is curated by Peet Pienaar’s design agency The President, held in both Cape Town and Buenos Aires? It’s kind of like the Design Indaba, I guess, but on a smaller, radder scale. They have amazing and talented speakers from around the world, 30 independent shops (can’t wait for those) and “inspiration tables”, which is where we come in – They invited 24 different people to design on top of 24 tables and the brief was to make something inspirational. Shane and I had a few ideas, but the one we settled on we really like and it’s come out so so nicely (I think) – I can’t wait to show you guys.

The pictures below are of all the pieces for our table, that box and suitcase is full of the parts (over 400 of them) that make it up and the other stuff are just clues hee. We are setting up on Wednesday and it opens on Thursday till Friday, I will post lots of pictures then – wish us luck x x

Here’s the invite. Hey, are any of you coming to this?

Design Indaba nights.

February 24, 2011

I’m attending the Design Indaba in Cape Town this week. We’ve had day one of talks and so far there have been some damn interesting people, some a little boring, but there was 1 or 2 that literally made me feel like a bruised over-ripe banana that no one wants going anywhere near their cornflakes. There is this one guy that I need to googlrize for you, when I have some time, but for now i’m running late so I have to dash.

Last night we had lots of Patrones and hamburgers. That stuff is gooooooood. The end.

awesome stuff, ceramics, photos

Howdy Cape Town. Thanks for having us. Your mountains are pretty and so are your streets, but damn your weather maker needs a talking to!

November 23, 2010

My friends Karenistic and Marina came with me to see and stay with our good friend Gina King in Cape Town this weekend that has just passed. We spent 4 glorious days with her pretty much eating as much bread as we could all possible fit into our faces. For some or other reason we were eating a lot of awesome delicious bread, bread between meals, before meals, after meals, it was like we were stocking up in case we got locked in a small cupboard or something – like there was any chance of that happening. But anyway it was so nice to be out and about with the girls. We went to so many cool places, saw so many friends, it was so awesome.

FRIENDS: I love you guys.

PLACES: Finally got to go to Field Office – nice sandwiches Willface. Lots of antique shops that were dotted all over the place. Church in town, have any of you been there? Wow what a special little place with special little things. We went to the new Blue Bird Garage market, that was sweet, it’s still pretty small, but it’ll get there. Michelle’s awesome exhibition, Kalk Bay, Vamp (obviously), Biscuit mill, Bird Cafe, lots of cool little shops and restaurants. Cape Town you have so many nice places to visit.

FOOD: Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeez we ate a crap load, I even got to eat boiled eggs and soldiers, haven’t had that masterpiece since I was a teen. When I came home all I could think about was getting into my stretchy pants and eating more lovely lovely bread. Last night I was even considering fashioning a loaf out of my bath soap I was craving it so much.

THINGS I WANTED, BUT MY CREDIT CARD SAID NO WAYS FAT FACE!

Oh man the ceramic teacup with the bird on the side made by Frauke Stegmann is my most favourite piece that I left behind. Balls. But I have these 2 teacups already, which I bought a while back, so don’t feel too sorry for me ha!
