Big Easy Express

June 15, 2012

My friend Robyn sent mt this link today, it’s a trailer for a movie called Big Easy Express, which is a documentry that follows Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show as they travel from Oakland to New Orleans, playing their unique blend of bluegrass and modern Americana.

It looks so awesome, I would of loved to have been on that train, even if it was only one day (sounds like a line from a song).

Flip how cool would it be to travel on a train across country with only you and your friends on it? I would make sure it had lank food on it and lank port….mmm…..I love port.

– 3 bands, 6 cities, 1 train, and thousands of miles of track…the BIG EASY EXPRESS documents a cinematic musical journey. Directed by renowned filmmaker Emmett Malloy (THE WHITE STRIPES UNDER GREAT WHITE NORTHERN LIGHTS) this incredible new film captures nothing less than history in the making.

Indie folk heroes Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Tennessee’s Old Crow Medicine Show, and Britain’s acclaimed Mumford & Sons, climbed aboard a beautiful vintage train in California, setting out for New Orleans, Louisiana on a “tour of dreams”. The resulting film from this journey is nothing short of magical.

Zim Zala Bim

May 25, 2012

Desmond and the Tutus have just released their second single called Zim Zala Bim, which is one of my MOST favourite songs on their new album. But don’t take my word for it, have a listen for yourself and then let me know what you think and if you feel like it, you can give them some love on their Facebook page.

The boys were shooting their second music video for this album on Tuesday and I popped past to say hi. We got to see the final thing last night and damn is it cool. So here is the song and a shot I took of the set when I went to visit. As soon as I can, I’m going to post the video up, it came out so super rad.

Hanro, the guy who shot the video for them, took this picture of Shane and I for his ‘500 Days of This’ project, which I blogged about a little while ago. You should also check that out if you haven’t already, it’s well worth your time. I’m so chuffed that I made it into the series heee. As you can see, the boys have featured quite alot.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!

March 22, 2012

Oh I will clap my hands alright! I have loved this band for the longest time and I was so chuffed to find out that they are coming to good old South Africa and soon.

I have attached one of my most favourite songs, The Skin Of My Yellow Country Teeth – the lead singers voice is crazy good, it’s not what you would expect when you look at his picture and I bet you it’s a voice you wouldn’t have heard anywhere else before. It’s hill-billish, but in a good way, in a away that makes you want to listen over and over again. So excited for this concert. Yeah!

Mötley Crüe’s The Dirt. Awesome.

November 8, 2010

I have just finished reading Mötley Crüe‘s autobiography called The Dirt. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Those guys were messed up. I literally couldn’t put the book down and it’s filled with stories that would make your grandmother wash your mouth out with acid if she ever heard you repeat them. You know how you always imagine rock and roll bands to be hardcore nutcases, well these guys were on a planet of their own. I must say bands back in the day seem like they would be a lot harder than some bands we listen to today. I just can’t imagine Belle and Sebastian behaving the same way these guys did. They used to dress in spandex, mid drift tops, platforms, loads of make-up, teased hair and leather and they owned every place they went into to. I read some of the story out to Shane and he listened and then politely told me that that would be the last bit of the Mötley Crüe story he ever wants to hear. Hhaah. The guys in the band reckon that the only other person who was more hardcore than them was old nutty Ozzy Osborne. They include one or 2 stories with him and let me just say that this time your granny would probably just drink the acid herself and hope she never wakes up again.
