The other day I went to go visit the Everard Read Gallery, which is currently hosting the Southern Guild 2012 collection which showcases Top Contemporary SA Design. I was blown away by some of the pieces. Unfortunately I couldn’t really afford to buy anything, plus the painting I loved the most had no price, but instead had a black sticker on it, which probably means “don’t even think about it”.
Below and above are the 2 pieces I liked the most, they are oil paintings by Saso Sinadinovski. Aren’t they just too wonderful for words?
The show runs till the 9th of September and I would encourage you to go see it, there are some really nice things for your eyes to look at.
– The exhibition will showcase new work from more than a hundred of South Africa’s top artists and designers such as William Kentridge, Conrad Botes, Brett Murray, Gregor Jenkin, Haldane Martin, Athi Patra, Michael McGarry, Egg, Tonic, Adriaan Hugo, Conrad Hicks, Ardmore, James Mudge, Silvio Rech, Pierre Swanepoel and many other luminary names. This year, Southern Guild will also be introducing a section dedicated to South African Ceramicists.

Another favourite of mine were these amazing robots made from scrap metal by Philippe Bousquet.
I also loved loved this ceramic piece entitled ‘Gun Fight’ by Michele Mathiso. I have included a few other things that I really thought were special. But like I said, I really think you should go have a look for yourself. You won’t be sorry.
Wow…so many awesome things! I love the robots.
those robots are too sweet. it looks like a lovely exhibition
I went to this exhibit last weekend when I was in Joburg as a friend works for Southern Guild. I was blown away. I loved the room with the Porky Hefer nest in it. Those paintings were my absolute fave but were also way beyond my budget.
such awesomeness but those oil paintings are kiiifff! dig 🙂
