Seven Psychopaths

April 29, 2013

On Saturday night I went to go Seven Psychopaths with Jo at cinema nouveau. Now I knew nothing about this film and sometimes that is the best way to go into a movie, knowing absolutely nothing about it. I came out smiling because I hadn’t wasted 110 minutes of my life on something that not even an oddly shaped piece of wood would enjoy.

So if you are like me and like seeing things that you know nothing about stop reading, if you want to hear my thoughts on the movie, well then…

– In short it’s about a struggling screenwriter who (Collin Farrel) inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends (Sam Rockwell & Christopher Walken) kidnap a gangster’s (Woody Harrelson) beloved Shih Tzu named Bonnie.

It’s not laugh out loud humour, it’s dry and subtle and on top of that it’s quite bloody, but not in a ‘I have to watch this through my fingers and then cry myself to sleep later on’ kind of way, the gore adds to the storytelling in a absurd comical sense. The characters are well developed, the cast well chosen, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and Woody Harrelson are some of my favourite people to see in a movie and they were all awesome in these roles. The story itself is fun and odd, and I like how it pokes a bit at the way (all) action films are made today. I would say that if you are looking to escape the world for a while into an interesting story that won’t have you wishing you would choke on your salt & vinegar popcorn (I love salt & vinegar popcorn) then go watch this film.

I didn’t give too much away right? Nah.

I found these cool Seven Psychopath posters that were made for a competition, thought I would include them for some eye action.
