Quite a while back I wrote a post about an amazing volunteer project where MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet had partnered up with a Johannesburg-based non-profit organisation called (NPO) Better SA and their very innovative and super awesome hop-on hop-off mini-bus volunteer service, which literally arranges everything for you. So, in other words, you jump onto their site volunteer your time and then they will pick you up, drop you off at the place that needs your services and then bring you back again, which means all you have to worry about is arriving at the pick-up point armed with your time that will 100% make a difference to not one but several people’s lives.
Shane and I live in what I think is one of the best buildings in Illovo and we were lucky enough to get our hands on a second unit in our block, which hadn’t been touched for probably the last 40 years! The walls were literally yellow from age and the carpets, which were originally beige (that seemed to be a damn popular colour back in the day) were a now a sad shade of grey, so Shane and I ripped everything out and gave this awesome space a refresh! New kitchen, bathrooms, lights, cupboards and shiny wooden parquet floors. It was a pretty fun project to work on, but now our 140 square meter, two bedroom, two bathroom kid needs a new family. Yip, we’re looking for tenants, so take a cyber look around and if you’re keen to rent our space from us, drop me a mail and we can meet up – firstname.lastname@example.org
When designing this flat we came across some awesome finishes that I thought I would share with you guys just in case you were also renovating and looking for bits and pieces.
I think I’m going to start this post off by saying that kids are amazing! Before I even had kids I thought that they were awesome and now that I have a brood of my own I’m even more convinced of the fact. Every day I look at them and I smile and feel so happy that these two humans have come into my life and made it better than it ever was in a very special and unique way.
I don’t have the best memory, which makes me really sad because I would love to be one of those people who remember things back when they were like 5 years old! I do however have very specific moments that I can recall that bring me such joy, moments were I can still remember a specific smell, like when I would get a new pack of Garbage Pail Kids, I can still remember their smell, it was a mix of new paper and the gum that came with them. Anyway, I guess where I’m going with this is that these days with my own kids I try my hardest every day, whether it be through a photo or something I jot down to remember just how amazing they are because I don’t ever want to forget. In fact I’ve actually started keeping a journal of all the awesome things Nina James says because some of them are priceless and just so sweet! A couple of weeks ago I asked her what she wants to be when she’s older and this is how she answered – ‘I’m going to be a big doctor and Rex is going to be a small doctor!’ And then a little while later when I asked her again she said- ‘I’m going to be a big elephant and Rex is going to be a star.’
My Peaceful Sleep Adventure Series is slowly coming to an end along with Summer which is so sad, but I have had the best time creating these posts and sharing them with you guys as well as getting to hang out doing cool stuff with my kids and Shane! Before it does come to an end though I’m going to be showing you a couple more awesome activities to do in and around Johannesburg all whilst under the protective force field created by Peaceful Sleep’s extensive Family Care Range.
If you are the type of family that likes being outside under the big beautiful sky surrounded by nature then this next post is just for you because it involves the very scenic and serene Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve and a morning of easy hiking, peanut butter sandwiches and speckled eggs.
Happy Easter everyone! I really hope you have all had a wonderful weekend so far and that you have been surrounded by family, friends, food and loads of chocolate eggs!
You may or may not have noticed that I’ve been sharing a lot more recipe posts lately. I’ve always loved being in the kitchen, ever since I was little kid and I’m so chuffed that Nina James loves baking and cooking as much as I do because it’s such a fun thing for us to do together and it doesn’t hurt that you get to eat the end result, which is not the story when you’re making pies out of playdough.
Yesterday we whipped up these very morish butter cookies and then sat in Nina’s room and had a full on tea party. She even picked a dress out of her cupboard and changed for the occasion, it was so sweet!
Caramel Popcorn with speckled eggs and sprinkles, yes that is what I attempted to make yesterday in time for the Easter weekend. This super colourful but also super sweet treat is really good, but also really indulgent, I reckon a whole bowl of this might make you feel sugar-dizzy haha! I’m a huge fan of speckled eggs, in fact, I think whoever invented them needs a bronze statue erected in their honour and I also love popcorn, so I thought hey let’s combine the two and chuck in some caramel for good measure to make something fun to snack on.
