one Leisurama please. thank you

leisurama

i bought this book the other day, it’s all about a development called Leisurama built by Macy’s, yes the department store, in the early 1960’s. so basically how it would work is, you would walk into Macy’s and literally walk out with a deed for a brand new holiday home, fully furnished for as little as $490 deposit and $73 a month. it would come complete with furniture, appliances, glasses, towels, napkins, beds, pillows and even matching toothbrushes. they only managed t0 build 200 of them and today 187 still exist. and the funny thing is, when they first built them, the “rich” looked down on the development and thought that it was lower class and now the property they are built on is sort after and super expensive. so those who hung onto their Leisuramas are smiling from one colour coordinated toothbrush to the other.

flip man, how cool? imagine being able to walk into Woolworths and buy a house by the beach? yes, can i have these pork chops and let me see… ya ok and one of those houses, thanks.

the story is so interesting and so well documented. if you come across this book anywhere, buy it, it’s really really cool. ok cool, bye x

I love the word ‘Leisurama’. I will attempt to work it into a sentence today. Wish me luck.
