It has been over 10 months since I have done any form of exercise, I was 8 months pregnant and as big as a small boat when I decided that I was going to stop with my workout routine because I was exhausted all the time and the 20 odd kgs I had picked up were not doing me any favours! I don’t know what it is about my body but with both my pregnancies I gained 22 kgs!! When I was carrying Nina James I admittedly so went nuts on white bread, I’d eat like 6 slices a day, but when I was carrying Rex I made an effort not to overdo it on everything that I knew I should have in moderation, but still, my body hung onto every little bit of extra weight it could! Being that much heavier made things like exercise really hard and I quickly became demotivated to get Shane to put my gym shoes on (yup there was no way I was reaching my feet!) for me to get any form of exercise done.
Blink to nine later and I still haven’t gotten back into any form of workout routine, in fact, I think I’ve probably forgotten how to spell the word exercise (thanks spell check). Starting up again after being away from it for so long has been hard! So when I was presented with a fitness challenge from Futurelife I figured that maybe this was my way of getting back into the swing of things with the help of people who knew what they are doing. The only problem is that the challenge has come in the form of me running (which I haven’t done in over 15 years) and completing the Old Mutual Soweto 10k Marathon happening in November!!!!!!!! Yip, I’ve added loads of exclamation marks to the end of that sentence because I think it needs them.
At first, I was a bit hesitant to jump onboard this project but then I thought ‘what the hell!’ I can do this or least I can try do it! I need to get my heart pumping again, I need to set myself a challenge and see if I can fulfill it. I’m not going to lie though, I’m quite nervous and a little scared, but I started training last week with Run Walk for Life and so far I’m still breathing hahah! It’s actually been pretty awesome getting outside again and making my body work for its dinner/dessert. Those of you who are in a similar position to me will know how hectic it can be to make time for exercise when you have so much going on and what feels like so little time to dedicate to anything that involves just you.
So I’m going to be documenting my journey the whole way via Instagram and Insta-Stories so if any of you are keen to see if I make it slash don’t break an ankle, then hop on over to my account and give me a follow. If any of you are also training for the Old Mutual Soweto Marathon I’d love to hear about it, maybe we can meet up at the starting line and high-5 before we get going hehe.
I’m also going to be sharing a couple of my own Futurelife recipes that I have made-up on my feed if you are keen to try any of them out.
