Nina and I

Nina and I

Becoming a mom is probably one of the best things I have ever done with my life and when I think about the connection that I share with my kids I get so emotional because it’s so real and special and I feel like nothing or no one could ever take it away from me.

So when Nina James and I were invited by the lovely folk at L’Occitane to be a part of their Mother’s Day campaign, which celebrates the connection that every mother has with her child, I jumped at the opportunity. We got to try out some of their amazing products while playing around in my bedroom and the result is this little video, which is such a true reflection of our relationship, because we do pretty much everything together when I’m at home and I know that 20 years from now I’m going to watch it again with her and probably cry!

We had so much fun shooting it and I know that every time I spray their Terre de Lumière perfume I’m going to think about my Nina, who actually landed up playing ‘make-up’ in front of the mirror for pretty much the rest of the day!

Nina and I from Angie Durrant Batis on Vimeo.

I’m a big fan of a few of  L’Occitane products and that’s why I’m pretty excited to tell you guys that I have 5 of these Mothers Day Floral L’Occitane Buckets to giveaway to 5 lucky winners and all you have to do to enter is:

1.Follow my Facebook page.

2.Leave me a comment here in the comments section and/or on my Facebook page (this will gain you an extra entry) telling me what you love the most about your mom.

3. I’ll be choosing the five winners this Friday at 6pm, just before Mother’s Day. Good luck!

Ooh and here’s another really awesome thing, if you go in store L’Occitane offer the following amazing treatments to all their customers free of charge – a Pampering Face & Hand Care Ritual or an Aromachology Relaxing and De-stressing Ritual, all carried out by L’Occitane beauticians.

If you do pop in you must smell their Terre de Lumière perfume that I mentioned above, it’s the first Gourmand Aromatic fragrance from L’Occitane and it’s so nice – Zesty and aromatic at first, the fragrance melts into an unexpectedly sweet heart of lavender honey, like a dessert for the senses, before settling into sensual balsamic and musky base notes.

Love this Mother’s Day giveaway! Enjoyed sneaking in and using my moms cream and perfume. Loved walking around smelling like her! She is just the Best with such drive and determination!

Meet my mom, Paula Van Niekerk, most people think that we are sisters and I take this as a serious compliment. She raised me by herself and personally, I couldn’t be prouder of anyone if I tried. She has been such an example of discipline, class, perseverance, grace and humility to me. I have gone through a couple of trying times in my life, right now is one of them, and I struggle to imagine coming through them without her. Besides all the sappy stuff- she’s funny as hell, with quick wit and a sharp tongue.

This Mothers Day I want to thank her for all she’s done for me (especially that one time she didn’t kill me after I took her car without a license, her permission or any solo driving experience and crashed it). I’ve already bought her a gift (which she chose because she admittedly has way better taste than me) but I know that one of your bags would make her year since she raves about them all the time! (also I owe her after that car incident!

I loved the smell of my mother. I remember being cuddled as a child and smelling a hint of her perfume. It would sometimes rub off on me and I would feel so grown-up. I would feel comforted if during the night I smelt that smell. I miss that smell and my mother, particularly on Mother’s Day.

Leading by example she taught us to never speak badly of other’s and to always treat everybody with respect. And she is always there for us in times of busyness/craziness/sickness x

My mom has such grace and gentleness through all the busyness and a really demanding job, she is an incredible grandmother to my daughter and niece.

I love this Mother’s Day giveaway ❤️ My mom and I have always been really close, she has always been so supportive of me, especially since I became a mother myself. Seeing her as a nana has been the most rewarding thing for me, and I am so grateful for everything that she does and how much she loves my two gorgeous children and me. ❤️

My mom is a hero, and I don’t mean my hero, I believe she could inspire the world with her tanacity and strength. She had to raise 4 girls, who have become strong women with very little. She taught us to take care of ourselves and others around us. I distinctly remember my mommy’s early morning ritual, she would tell us, no matter how little you have always take pride in yourself, appearances may not be everything but first impressions are. Show the world your worth through everything you do. This mantra has taught me so much and maybe one day, I’ll be able to teach another girl child the same. ❤️

    Hi Angie,

I have left you a comment on Facebook explaining just how great my mother is. Every day I think about how I could show my appreciation of her. Whether it be… a lunchbar chocolate bar or a simple cup of tea, I do this every day.

    Have a lovely day.

  • Reply Rika Botha May 10, 2017 at 9:07 am

My mom would be totally embarrassed if posted anything of her on Facebook, so I’ll rather post here 😉 I think I never knew how much my mother did for me until I became a mother myself. Buying me new shoes, when she probably needed it more than me, buying me a book she knew I wanted, paying for one of my numerous courses (including Spanish…), helping me when I moved to Jozi and decide to do a photography course for a year….
I don’t see her that often since I’ve been living in Johannesburg, but luckily there’s Skype and when I visit her she still brings me a blanket or a gown to make sure I’m not cold, she still grabs my hand when we cross the street (and I’m almost 41!). All the countless little things amount to my mother ?

    What a cute video!

I love my Mum because she is Greek goddess mixed with Wonder Woman. She is so unbelievably strong (you will not even believe, I still cannot), and has sacrificed so much, with having so little to begin with, for me and my two sisters so that we may have an incredible life and future. She is Mum and Dad rolled into one, she’s always making sure our tummies are full and warm, and she really is just so incredible, and we wish we could give her the universe.

My mother, Mun Ying De Lacy is an incredibly strong woman who has sacrificed so much so that me and my brother can have the life we want and the resources to achieve our goals. She gives so much of herself to others and is so loving and caring. I would be lucky enough to be half the woman she is. <3

Smells linked to memories are so powerful, and every Sunday lunch growing up smelled incredible. My mom is such a good cook and always goes out of her way to please everyone! It’s like the Friends Thanksgiving episode where Monica makes 3 different potato dishes to keep everyone happy, that’s my mom! Always pleasing everyone and putting us first xx Lovies

I love that my mom Anna Hartwig, has always been encouraging and supportive. She always sees the positive and forgets the negative. She has never not believed in me. Even when I feel I am failing to please her, she always says she’s proud of me and what I have accomplished. She tells me to forget what I haven’t accomplished, and that I’ll get there one day, when I’m supposed to be. I am where I am because I need to be. My mom has always been the light at the end of the day that I need the most <3

    My mom has this smell.
And she has an incredible style.
So I raid her closet all the time. I tell her it’s because I love her clothes but the truth is I also get to have her smell surrounding me.
It gives me strength because she is the most incredibly strong woman I know

My mom’s unique sense of humor has carried us both trough the best and the worst of times. She’s beyond real, the most grounded and levelheaded person I know. Her ability to let people’s comments/judgements about her run of her like water of a ducks back is something I’m working on daily. Priceless one liners as quirky, cool and beautiful as she is…

My mom deserves this hamper! She has a way of always looking after herself and smelling amazing is a priority!

I’ve learnt and I love quite a lot of incredible aspects from my mom. Being independent played a huge role. Today, only 23 years old I am able to stand on my own two feet through thick and thin. I am fearlessly authentic because of her as well as to be forgiving of myself and others. I have learnt to never deprive someone of hope as it might be all they have. Lastly, as my mom would say ” Go for your beliefs, be honest and proud because you’re a beautiful flower ” Infinitely grateful for everything she’s done and sacrificed for her siblings
She will love this gift! We will definitely be going in the L’Occitane Store for a pampering face and hare care ritual

BTW – your video is so cute!

  • Reply Elize Swanepoel May 10, 2017 at 2:27 pm

What I love most about my Mom is all the things she taught me: My Mom taught me how to be HARD WORKING. She’s in his sixties already and suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes and has a heart condition but she still gets up every morning and goes to work. On weekends and public holidays when all of us are enjoying a day off, she is at work. She taught me how to be HUMBLE. Doesn’t matter how much she helps other people in need, she never complains or takes credit. She taught me how to be FORGIVING. Life is short. Forgive other people not because they deserve it but so that you can have peace. My Mom taught me how to have FAITH. They took us to church and Sunday school from a young age and they lived by example. My Mom taught me how to be THANKFUL. Always have good manners and say please and thank you. No matter how small the gesture or gift, it came from the heart, so always acknowledge it. She taught me how to LOVE. My parents have always shown my brother and myself unconditional love. No matter how old we get, we will always be their children and my Mom will always worry about us. She taught me how to be STRONG. No matter what life throws at you it’s not how you fall that matters but how you get up and face the challenge. She also taught us to stand up for ourselves. She taught me how to have GOOD CHARACTER. Words are meaningless but actions say a lot about a person. Mean what you say and act accordingly. And lastly to have RESPECT for other people especially older people and yourself. Respect cannot be forced. It has to be earned. My Mom is the best Mom that anyone could ever ask for. My childhood years were the best. I always felt safe and cared for. We didn’t always have a lot of money, but we had love which is the most important. I am so blessed to still have her and my Dad in my life. Especially now that I’m a Mommy of a 10 year old boy, I can only hope to be half the parents that they are. I phone my Mom every week just to hear her voice and to check in. Winning this would be the perfect gift to show her how much she is appreciated and loved. She’s not on Facebook, so I can’t tag her but that’s ok. I’ll just tell her! ♥ ♥ ♥ Been a fan of Lucky Pony for a while already. Keeping my fingers crossed. x

Super stoked about this! I remember knowing at a young age the comforting feeling I would get when I lie my head on my mom’s chest. The softness and warmth and smell. I am a mom now and am very aware about the things about me that my daughter finds comforting. I sometimes even try to dress in a way that feels comforting to my daughter.

My Mom always knows what’s troubling me without even asking. She is the coolest mom back in the days, letting me to do stuff that other moms wouldn’t let their child do.
She is always trying to feed me healthy meals because by the time you getting older, you will really appreciate it!

My mom seems to be is a normal person like you and me, she cries and is grumpy, she makes mistakes and takes bad decisions, but she is actually a super hero. She taught me the things above are her superpowers because crying cleans your heart of sadness and rage, and that falling gives you super strength to be more powerful for the next challenge. So yes! She is pretty cool and I hope I have inherited the same superpowers to pass on to my little daughter and the little monkey on the way.

Always putting her children first. A few years ago I was diagnosed with a rare blood disease and ended up in hospital for about 2 months. My mom was there every single day come rain or shine, comforting me and showing me so much love. There were days I was petrified so she would come early in the morning and sit outside on the bench the whole day just so that I know she is close by and I never have to be scared. I got through it because of her and till this day she is fighting my battle with me, I know I’m never alone. This mothers day I want to put her first #Mothersday #LoveLoccitane #LoccitaneCares #LuckyPony

    My mom is spontaneous,
    she is funny,
    she is kind.
She can be brutally honest and yet you know she only does it for your own good.
She has a way of making everyone feel like they have arrived home.

She has a wild spirit and an untamed heart, and has sacrificed so much to bring up my brother and I.

I wish to send her on all the adventures she has missed out on.
To give her back all the magic she has forgotten she has.

    She is my bestie,
    my confidant,
and although it sometimes feel as if we are so far apart that our phone calls consist mainly of ‘I miss you’ I would treasure nothing more than to be able to surprise visit her and to spoil her.

I love her quiet strength, zest for life, crazy happiness and unending rainbow love for my sister and I. She always has time for us, her two girls, and her grandkids. My mom is the sweetest, kindest and most caring person I know. She is my mentor, my therapist, my doctor, my baker, she is the shoulder I cry on and the person I laugh the hardest with. Even though i’m all grown up and have children of my own, a hug from my mom can make my biggest problems seem manageable. This woman would give her last to a complete stranger if they needed help. Even though my mom is a pensioner, she makes sandwiches every wednesday for a local school in our area so that all the children get at least something to eat. She is one in a million and I cannot imagine my life without her. I am honoured to call her my mom.
