Yesterday I pulled out my Sweet Treat book and decided to attempt the making of the mint-patty delights. I just bought the world’s most expensive peppermint essence, especially for this recipe so I thought let me give it a try.
*Please note that I was so amped that I found this bottle in Pick and Pay, that I didn’t care that it cost R140, I just kept thinking that I have never seen peppermint essence before and I need it for this recipe – when I got home I saw that I actually needed mint essence and when I looked in our grocery cupboard to get all the other ingredients I found a bottle of R5.49 Robinsons peppermint essence that Shane had bought the other day. I was so bummed, but I really like this packaging, so I’m keeping the over-priced bastard.
Anyway I made the mint-patty delights, I got scared halfway through when the recipe said that I should beat the mixture with an electric beater until smooth, there was nothing smooth about my mixture, it was ball-ey like an ugly homemade jersey that should never have seen the sweet light of day in the first place. But I persevered and they came out ok, they don’t look smooth like Frankie’s ones, but they taste pretty good. Not sure though if I’m going to attempt them again. My next feat is homemade coconut marshmellows. Hello!

I really despise it when I buy something and then I already have it, or find it somewhere else for dirt-cheap. Breaks my effing heart!
Those patties remind me of a cake I made for home ec in school. We made the batter green and the icing pink. Sure was an ugly cake. But those look delish!
they looks delish friend
such a pretty bottle, but more expensive than peppermint liquer!
the bottle is beautiful! and those patties look yum x
Whatchutalkinbout Willis? They look AMAZEBALLS! x
LOL! Never seen that before, gorgeous packging.
I would have bought that peppermint extract solely because of that awesome packaging! Even if I didn’t have a recipe I needed it for. 😉
LOOOOOVE that colour! so eye-dropping it 🙂 were they really not so great? they look amazeballs. xx
OH MY WORD, I will admit to licking the screen when I saw these – too delish!
I have a habit of buying baking supplies I already have. I have about three bottles of Cream of Tartar, which I now use to clean my pots because I only have one recipe that asks for it.
my next morning off = delightful
